Seals for the TRD S/C
I would like to say i do not have leaking seals as of yet.
I would like to know if anyone has replaced their seals yet. And what part # they used and where they got it.
If no one has done this I really. Us S/C owners need to be focusing on this. We need to find one that will work, or some how get some made. or we will never be able to get
12lbs of boost reliably.
With us getting together in numbers we could do something even sooner.
i am almost sure we can find some way around vortech and TRD some most likely made their gaskets for them we just need to find out who.

i dont have a supercharger but im kinda getting scared of buying it cause of whats been happening to a couple of people. It would be awesom if we can find some replacements.
BTW the answer is not "DONT MOD" , because we will, we just need replacements for broken parts
thanks

yeh this is a big issue. my toyota technician believes that it's mostly because of the heat that is coming off the aftermarket headers. my header wrap is coming in on thursday and i will wrap mine that afternoon. i've had my s/c for about two and half weeks now and i've only punched it 3 times. one reason is because im tryin to properly break it in, and the other because i dont want to make it hotter then it has to be under the hood..at least not until i wrap the header.
I know everybody has their own opinions but I, myself, am convinced that it is an installation error of the allen bolts. Now does the heat from the headers speed up this problem? Yes, probably. Do I think that proper installation with headers will ever leak? No, but I could very well be proven wrong. Now don't anyone go all crazy on me but that's just my personal feelings.
I agree it could be a number of problems that are causeing the leak. like we have all read previously.
But regardless of what the problem is we need those that have had a leak to open up there S/C and give us a some photos so we can get seals made.
now upon that happening we will be able to figure out what is causeing the leak.
And that would be even better
I have 4k miles on my S/C and am desparetly wanting to put a header on and pulley.
but until that i know for certain there will be know ill effects or i can fix the problems then i will not do either of them 12lbs of boost for 2 months is not worth 3k dollars.
and as of now a single seal that costs a max of 20 dollars is worth 3k dollars

yup i agree. i had the header on before the s/c and i just decided to leave it on. i didnt think the header would pose that much of a problem at first but when my tech warned me about it, and when i actually looked at it myself, i became a believer. the header wrap should help.
what about the pulley? no body was just running a pulley and it happened. everyone had pulley and header. and if you think about it a pulley could have done it to. the pulleys get are smaller then stock which means you spin the S/C faster which would create more wear and tear and possibly higher oil psi which could blow a seal too.

They're making me the highest boost pulley physically possible and they're estimating it to be about 13.5-14lbs. Awesome guys btw, they can explain it more if you talk to them on aim.
It would be awesome to find some aftermarket seals to replace the factory ones, but only if the factory seals are actually proven to be 100% inefficient. Yes I know a few people around here have had problems but we need to consider a few things.
There are just as many people around here with pulleys, headers, and other mods who have had no problems. These people seem to have their kits installed properly and even more importantly have all their bolts tightened to proper specs.
Of those who did have problems, how many had everything installed 100% properly? Sadly the answer to that question probably can not be answered at this point. And yes I know many of us had Toyota dealers install our kits, but that does not mean that your particular technician did his job properly on that particular day.
Sorry for the rant boys and girls. Just some food for thought.

Everyone i think is right in there own way. Yes there will be more problem posts then no problem. Yes the S/C can most likely do more boost then we can possibly use.
Vortech did not make the drive assembly that was all TRD so they are really under driveing it.
Regardless of haveing problems with mods or without. Regardless of having leaks now or later. Regardless of how correct the instalation is. TRD and Vortech are not making any parts for the S/C and i seriously doubt they will. So i would just like to have parts if something went wrong then be stuck up a creek without a paddle.
I was also looking into if we could get different pitch impellers so we could get more boost that way. But vortech does all of there maintenance in house. so they would be the ones to switch it out. And they are not gonna do that cause of the contract with TRD. So we are back to square one and that means we need to do it all our selves possibly trial and error

i had just a pulley and it blew the seals on my sc according to toyota. the extra 1.5lbs of boost is capable of destroying the seals as my tech said. basically, anything and everything u do to the car will destroy the seals. if u're not careful when opening the hood, a large gust of wind on a hot day will warp them as well. also, if u, a friend or someone looks under the hood, make certain that they don't breath too hard when near the sc-within 3ft and 2inches is as close as u should get-that too may warp the seals if u're not careful. i believe that's happened to only 4 people, but as they say, even 1 is too many.
