Default What's Up with This Stupid Stereo Cover

Did a search, got nothing helpful...

The Stereo Cover on my wife's Tc is a major pain in the Butt...

You literally have to chop suey karate chop on it in order for it to open...

Has anyone fixed this on your Tc? Is thier a simple DiY?

Thanks in advance!

Mine works great and I love it. It will be nice when I get my carputer set up because nobody will be able to see it when I am out of the car meaning a reduced chance of it getting stolen.

If you are having problems opening it, you could always look into the tCover. It motorizes the cover and can be set to open when you start your car and close when you turn it off or run off switches to open and close. Do a search and you should be able to find out more.

Mine was doing the same thing a while back. I ended up taking the console out, removing the door piece, completely dismantling it, adding a little bit of clear grease to the components, and then reassembled it. Really easy to get it open now. In fact, it's almost too easy. At the drag strip I was running with the cover closed and on the 1-2 shift the car rattled so much the door popped open!

honestly, grab the tCover (i think its tCover.net)

I never had a problem w/ my door, but it was only operating manually for about 300 miles before I installed the tCover. I love it! Door opens when I turn the car on, closes when I turn it off, can't ask for more.

The DIY TCover installation guide in the tech section here on scionlife showed me how to disassemble the radio door.

tCover is the $h!t, I love it, plus you don't have to worry about leaving it open and having your stereo out in the open for anybody who wants to steal it to see it, great for aftermarket stereo AKA my $1500 head Unit

I'm sorry to say, but the TC-Cover is just way too expensive for a few gears and actuators....

When I replaced my head unit I regreased the sliders the door runs on, if you took it apart you would see what I'm talking about.

All you have to do to get it off is... visit the Mandos thread to where he takes apart the dash....

EDIT: Corrected the link, pasted the wrong link in the wrong thread...
