Well this is not making me happy
The Unorthodox pulley showed up today. and I managed to get the wifes xA dropped on Sensa-Trac's. (Gotta say the ride is WAY better now!) Pics of the drop coming soon. But what's ____ing me off is the Unorthodox pulleysweeks like the CNR pully. So another $150 later and I'm right back where I was last week. Listening to this damn car chirps it's happy way away from every light and stop sign.
It's going to the dealer tomorrow for the alignment. I'm going to have them look at it and see if they can figure out why it squeeks. If they can't an Agency lightweight pulley will go on and both of my underdrive pulley's will be for sale.
The CNR pulley is in the classifieds now.
I hope tomorrow will be better or this car will be for sale soon

i went with agency power. it's a little squeaky after the install, but that's when the car is still "warming up". after a couple mins it goes away.
and yeah, it's most likely something wrong with the installation rebuild. like you said get it checked out, and if try to sell them on a warranty service. don't tell them you were installing an aftermarket part unless they notice it. say you were just doing some routine maintenance or checking out the engine ...

The car stock doesn't cut it for me and more so for my wife, seeing as it's her daily driver and she does nothing but whine to me about the sqeeky pulley I either fix it, put it back to stock or get rid of the car. If it's stock all I hear about is how it shakes nearly to the point of dying at every stop light. SO if I can't get the aftermarket crap working then the car is stock. AND no one wants to drive a stock xA that shakes violently at a stop light because the ALT can't keep up with keeping the car running with the headlights, a/c and brake lights on. Scion refuses to admit this ALT is a piece of crap or messed up. I don't see how it could be a bad install as there is only 1 frigging bolt and either it's tight or the pulley is falling off. I've cranked on this ALT to get that belt as tight as possible. I have 2 belts that are completely thrashed from how tight I tried to get the belt. I have 6 belts, from every manuf. I could find, Every belt does the same thing. Some last a day, some last 2 days, some squeek the instant it's started. The CNR pulley is covered in belt dust from it slipping so much. The Orthodox pulley squeeked for a couple minutes this morning (Like 10). As soon as we get to the dealer I notice it's not squeeking. I can handle a couple minute 'warm up' if needed but it's getting old. I would have figured if this was common there would be some threads about it but I seem to be the only one asking about it. I've pulled the CNR pulley off and on 4 times. Swapped belts atleast a dozen times. I've spent more time working on the belt of this car than all other projects for it, including the 18 hours on the woofer box.
Evo your agency is not under driven right? (If the light weight ones squeek I'm not going to bother swaping to it if that's the case.)
We'll see what the dealer says, this Orthodox pulley is making a far nastier noise than the CNR ever did. The last idea I have if this pulley keeps it up is to put a light weight pulley on and an Orthodox over drive pulley on the ALT, over spinning the ALT, but then I have to hope the voltage regulator doesn't mess everything up. Toyota has 2 Alternators, a 80 amp and a 95 amp. I'm trying to find a 95 but doubt it will make that much of a difference.
I'd pay for someone to put it on if they'd garantee it would not chirp. I'll get a video of it tonight if it keeps it up. Orthodox has also not ever bothered to return the 4 voice mails or 4 emails I left them about this.
A couple people on here had mentioned they had belt sqeek and that the dealer fixed it. I'm kind of wondering if it might be the water pump pulley as it's very shiny. Maybe they'll figure something out.

what's the poiunt of havign a pulley as the only mod?
the alt is ot that bad unless your's is a warranty problem. take it to another dealer and see what they say.
get a perrin pulley , mine has never squeeked.
the belt is not tight enough or the pulley's you've been using are machined badly and don't mesh with the belts well.
no lightened pulley will alleiveate a violent shaking. if it's shaking that bad it isn't the alt , it's an engine mount or something , now if the lights and othger accessories went out at a light yes it'd be the alt , or if the battery frequently died and needed to be jumped.

I've been down the road with the dealer. They say nothing is wrong with the alt. 6 times I went to the dealer, they say it's fine. The only thing that's ever fixed the violent shaking has been the pulley, hence why I don't want to be pulleyless (is that a word?) I've been fighting with the dealer about this strain that is put on the car for too long, I have something like 5 posts about it throughout the years. I notcied it 3 weeks after getting the car. What happens is when the electric fan kicks on so much of a draw is placed on the ALT it pulls the rpm's down to about 500, shakes like hell for about 10 seconds only when the fan is kicking on or OFF of all things. and it's only when the brake lights have been on for more than 30 seconds (sitting at a light or something..) I used to be able to shake the car on command with the turn signals, atleast that's fixed now. I have a 1100CCA Stinger drycell (brand new, 2nd one due to thinking the first was the cause), several farrad cap for the amp, 8 gauge ground wire kit (Mika's DIY ofcorse) and the pulley in hopes of fixing this. I owned/ran/and installed at my own stereo shop for 11 years so I kinda have some experiance with charging systems, my Mitsubishi had 2 180amp alt's and 6 900cca batteries with a dozen 1 farrad caps(back in 96 that was the biggest you could get) it was purely an spl vehicle, I owned the shop so it cost me next to nothing to do. This car doesn't have room for a second battery or alt so my options are very limited.
Now here's where it gets interesting again, it didn't squeek the whole time at the dealer, nor when we drove it home, or at 10:30 tonight after it sat for 7 hours. IF this pulley fixed it I'll be more than happy, I'm giving it a week of her driving back and forth to work, if it's not squeeking I'll figure out a new toy (probably a new amp or something, maybe a sun roof) and go running madly down the street singing the praise of Unorthodox!
The pulley isnt the only mod. It's got the stuff above, and a cai, I'm still looking for a non-fart can cat back. It's also sitting on 17's Tiens and Monroes. It's packing quite a stereo as well. It's her daily driver and our 'quick run to Vegas' car as my truck gets 12mpg on the freeway so I don't want to go crazy with it, but to be honest I haven't done anything near what I had/have planned for it, it's this damn charging system that's killing me. I'm not going to sink $5k into a car that's going to sound like a deisel at a light while the pulley chirps for it to have all of 120hp at most. She's finally agree'd she'd take a new Mustang, and I have no problem finding parts for those
One more thing I'm going to try is running a 4 gauge off the alt to where ever it goes (I have to track it down, be it the battery or a distro block)

you could upgrade to a non stock alt. re wires about 300 dollars.......
get a rustang,. the mileage is horrible , the build quality is horrible, the car is horrible.
oh and notice about i said " take it to ANOTHER dealer" not the one who doesnt want to/can't help you.

I got a rustang already, no rust though but it's getting 28 mpg

If we did get a 05+ I wouldn't care about milage.
I looked into a rewind, the problem is they can't make it charge heavy at idle, I was told 130amp max on the rewindbefore the rear bearing couldn't handle something, they quoted me $220 or so. My mustang came with a 75 amp alt(15 amps at idle), the fix was the 3rd gen alt (65 amps at idle) 130 amp peak. Took care of all chraging issues in that car too, As it was doing nearly the identical thing except the a/c blower motor needs to be on high (60 amp draw, really bad design) I can't get anyone to part with specs on Toyota's alts. I wonder if a LExas one would be any bigger.
I like the Plastangs but I'm sick of the v6 guys thinking they have Muscle Cars. I'm looking into a Blue Shelby but we'll see. THe shelby's are way cheaper then a Roush or Saleen. I could handle 2 450+ Hp vehicles, I'm sure the local gas station would be pleased with me

ah yuck.
hmmm in all the car's i've had , and my parents ave had and my friends have had , whether they were old , small , new , large , v8 , 3 cylinder , straigh six , economy car , work truck , anything. I have NEVER came across such idle problems. so either you guys are making them larger than they are or it's a manufacturing defect.
you shouldn't need more than 15 amp at idle for a scion unless you play your stereo at full blast all day long.

Hey Quick Question Is The Guide Pin Still There? If So Is It In Good Condition? The Reason I Ask Is It Might Be A Possibility That Its Gone Or Broke Off And The Pully Is Only Spinning Off The Pressure Of The Center Bolt Causing It To Squeal The Belt From Some Slippage......Anyhow Im In Your Town If I Can Be Of Some Help.....Installed The Agency Myself On My xA At My Shop No Belt Squeal At All

Took it to Scion Friday to have the 'brand new dent' in the door fixed. I guess my wife told the service guy to have them look at it. $80 for them to look at it, I was ____ed. WAS. When we piece the car up it wasn't squeeking. They said they adjusted it. I said yeah right, so have I like 50 times. No they REALLY adjusted it. The have the underdrive pulley on there with the shorted belt and the alt is adjusted all the way to the end of the alternator braket. I could never get it that tight. I figured I was going to snapp either the block or the alternator. Whatever tool they have that can put that much tension on that belt I want it. I could only ever get it within 1 inch of the end of the adjustment. So it's not squeeking, we paid $80 but hey it's not squeeking, this appears to be what was wrong with the CNR pulley as well, nothing wrong, just not tight enough. I'm 300lbs so it's not like I wasn't putting enough weight on it, I was just afraid I would brake it.
Devious I've checked the pin 3 times, it's there and solid. It was the belt slipping for sure.
Alex as for running the underdrive with a large system it's so far been the best thing for the system. I have plenty of power so I can swing under driving the alt. I've never had a charging issue since the pulley's went on.
So far 2 days and it hasn't sqeeked, though I had it not squeek for 3 days s the jury is still out on this one until next friday. But I did finally get some pics of the car after the lowering.
