Braking........ in automatics.
I'll explain why this pertains to those only with automatics.
I've noticed lately that it seems my trans down-shifts too early or something while slowing or braking.
When braking and slowing down, my car jerks rearward. Maybe jerk is the wrong word. It just feels as if the car has suddenly slowed faster than it should have then lets up again. PLEASE NOTE: This is not the instant I first apply the brakes. I'll be riding the brake (not heavily) for 3 -5 seconds and it'll happen. This is with constant, even pressure on the brakes. I know it's not my doing. Whenever I feel it happen I look at the tach and see it jump up to 2000 - 2500 then come back down. So I know it's the issue of going down through the gears.
Also, occasionally, I'll see the rpms drop to about 800 for a second then come back up to normal. This is also while riding the brakes.
It's such a vast change in speed that I'll be pulled forward in my seat. As if I had just slammed on the brakes. But only for a split second.
I just get the feeling I'm still going to fast when the car decides to down-shift and it's the combination of the brakes applied.
What am I missing here?

The car's ECT decides to shift sometimes....its the same idea that causes it to do this that also llows it to ____ down while coacting downhill to help slow you down
mine has done since i bought it. its like the transmission shifts, then opens up the torque onverter(if thats possible....cursed auto trannies)
BUt, mine does it too, so down worry about it

Ok well, as long as it's normal. But it drives me nuts sometimes.
My passengers look at me funny sometimes when it happens as if to say "What the hell are you doing?" lol
But thanks. As long as it's supposed to be that way.

^^^^^ same thing hear i know when its coming now so i just let up the brakes a little. Im used to it though. I guess its just how the car computer is programmed. It also seems to happen more often on downward hills however slight. Its normal dont sweat it!
There are 2 things that you are feeling
You are feeling the car shift up so the engine braking can help you slow down
And you are feeling the brake pedal boost kick in. This happens so you don't have to push the pedal further down to achieve better stopping distances.
