What brand of hood is it? Most hoods do not have a uv inhibitor that is of much good past 1 year. We actually wetsand and clear all carbon fiber hoods on the cars we do except for one brand of hoods we carry on our site from KG Direct which are manufactured here in the USA and are PPG cleared in manufacturing. Most hoods gloss finish is simply from the gel coat used in manufacturing and that is how it pops out of the mold after polishing. The resins and gelcoats have a degree of UV protection but not for extended UV exposure.

If your hood has a quality automotive clearcoat with uv inhibitor in it all you need to do is wax it like the rest of the car.

We sell tons of hoods and have been in this business for 10 years before the carbon iber craze even took off so I have lots of exerience on this matter.

once it is faded it is unfixable. Other than tinting the finish with a kandy or pearl the only option is to paint it.

Having a hood cleared at a body shop should no be more than $100. Usually they will shoot it when they are clearing another job so it really does not take any extra time other than prepping it.
