Default Buying a Scion xB, help please!

Hi, everyone! I am new here and I am a recent graduate and I don't have much money to spent yet, so for now I just want to buy what I need until later when I have more money. I think I am going to buy a new Scion xB next week and want to ask you experts a few questions...

1. Is the Vehicle Shield Protection important? Will it helps the car runs better and longer because I am planning to have this car for a long long time.

2. The arm rest is $125 at the dealership, but I see it on eBay for $75-80. Is the arm rest easy to install? I don't know much about cars so can I do it?

3. What kind of warranty do you all have? I will drive around 80+ miles everyday, any suggestions would be helpful.

By the way, this forum rocks!!

-I wouldn't bother, Just take care of your car and it will take care of you.

2. The arm rest is $125 at the dealership, but I see it on eBay for $75-80. Is the arm rest easy to install? I don't know much about cars so can I do it?
- Easy to instal yourself.. Also check it out at TRDSparks.com

3. What kind of warranty do you all have? I will drive around 80+ miles everyday, any suggestions would be helpful.
-I say just the factory warranty.... Again, just take care of it, the usual stuff. Oil Changes every 3,000 Tire Rotations every 6,000 Get your brakes and Front end inspected on every or every other tire rotation (most places do this for free, your dealership will charge you). If you live anywhere near saltwater or where they use salt on the roads for winter you must wash your car often, this will be the biggest defense aginst corrosion.[/b]

^^^ he's got it nailed right on the head.

take care of your car, and it will last you for a very long time. this goes for any car out there. when you spot a problem, address it immediately and find the source of the problem. too many motorists say "oh, i can fix it later" or "it's not a big bother, so i'm not gonna bother fixing it"

Toyota's are bullet proof if you spend some time taking care of it. This goes for other things as well.

With the amount of driving you do, buying the extended warranty may not make any sense because you will probably hit the mileage limit before the time. You may even hit over 60k in 3 years.

Enjoy the box

Be careful installing the armrest. I've seen a few customers break the mount trying to slip the clamp over it.

Extended warranties are like anything else you plan on. If you're in a position where a potential repair bil could break your bank then you might consider the extended warranty. If you are a rainy-day planner then you should be okay without it.

From personal expirience, im 18 and have no handyman/ car skills. I was doing some cathode mods, and had to remove the armrest 3 times. I had NO trouble at all. Just wish i woulda bout it aftermarket.

yup, mine was going down that path when I started my install. I loosened up the back two bolts on each seat track that thread into the tunnel. Did the trick allowing me to swing the clamping wire over without being breakstuff tight.

OEM arm rests can be found on ebay for $75 plus about $13 for shipping.

I got a deal on Ebay for: floormats (front and back), cargo mat, cargo net, and armrest. They were all OEM for about $200. It's a good deal if you think you'd like those items anyway.

As far as the armrest install, the steps are easy to follow but getting the wire clamp on is a total _____. I had to oil down the top of the base to get it to go on. That being said, now that I've got it on there it feels REALLY solid. I probably will never remove it again though.

Bought my xB two days ago. Love it. Take care of it and it will last. It is a Toyota product. My wifes old 96 Camry still runs like a top.

you may want to consider the warranty. but, that is all about your piece of mind. i got the warranty on my tC because of the bad experiences i had with other cars. once bitten twice shy, ya know?

yes.. the scion xb is an excellent choice. i recently graduated too and i purchased an xb.... i would deffinately recomend the arm rest, im not sure as too how easy the installation is, but i would get 1 for sure. and i personally did not get any kind of an extended warrantee. have you ever heard of a toyota not to go to 100,000 miles. but the choice is up to you if u want to get it.

If you finance through Toyota they are offering a $400 rebate right now for recent graduates. I purchased the extended warranty as I drive nearly 100 miles a day. I have had the alternator replaced already--but that would have been covered under warranty anyway. Not sure what you meand by Vehicle Shield Protection. If that is some sort of rust shield or paint sealant I would stay away from that.
