DIY Oil Separator (best place to put?)
I am planning on getting some pieces together to do a DIY oil separator (sorta catch can...not as big). I've been searcing and saw that someone placed theirs in between the PCV tubing that goes from the passenger side of the motor to somewhere behind the throttle body---- at the same time I have also seen people put the separator on the PCV tubing that runs from (when looking at your engine bay), the right side of the motor to the air intake roughly behind the MAF. my question is where would I benefit/see more use for my DIY oil separator? Do some people run two for both PCV tubes?
I'm guessing I'll see more blow-by with putting the in line oil separator on the pcv tube that goes to the intake manifold rather than the intake....but i'd rather have two if it was really worth it...if not I could save a few bucks and use just one. I'm not super knowledgeable about cars but I know a thing or two. Thanks in advance.

well if its gonna cost me like 20 bucks..and all I have to do is make it...I don't see why it wouldn't be a good investment? the next thing I have on my list of things to do is a turbo kit from one of the manufacturers (prolly ZPI). but i would like to do this..because its cheap and i feel that it will keep me under the hood atleast once a week which imo is good for me haha.
catch cans are important if you are FI. You can either have two small catch cans (one for each vent tube) or you can have one can with 3 ports (2 in and 1 out), or you can take both pipes into a T or Y fitting and put the outlet of the T into one of the two ports on the can. Then plumb the other one to the intake AFTER the MAF sensor. Do not put the outlet into the intake before the MAF sensor or you could potentially foul the sensor if you catch can would happen to let some oil through.
awesome PghtC, thanks for the info...yeah I'm planning to get the stage zero ZPI kit here in the near future and I felt that this would just be a lil help to where I wanna go. I don't know if I wanna run too much tubing so I will probably do two small ones. when I venture to the store to get the parts I will prolly do a DIY for ya'll and post pics and what not...but in all honesty i dont know if it'll happen until maybe around end of september when I get my scholarship money. Thanks again tho and you all will be hearing from me soon.
