I've noticed that different dealers have different recommendations for the key maintenance (5k, 15k, 30k, ...) intervals. For example, for the 15k service, Champion Scion (in Austin) recommends just an oil change, tire rotation, and extensive inspection. The manual also suggests tightening the drive shaft bolt. I've seen other dealers also recommend that the chassis be lubed (is this even required on our vehicle?).

My question is, why is there a difference in the recommended maintenance items? And I did do a search on this subject, but sorry in advance if it has been covered already.

All service recomendations are differnt for every car.

It all depends on what kind of fluids, options, etc. are used. Like what you would need to do to a 4X4 and a FWD car are completly different.

I'm 99% sure this car has a sealed chassis. But i would recommend simply doing what the dealer tells you need to do. Because if anything happens, they are the ones that have to honor your warranty if something breaks. And you and them have all the service records that show that you completed their stipulations, they have to honor the warranty.

Thanks zorack. I was actually talking about the recommendations for the tC in particular. For example, Champion Scion says that I should do something for the tC 15k maintenance, which is different from what the tC's own manual says to do. Furthermore a different scion dealer would give a different recommendation from the others about what to do for a tC.

The more things they do, the more $$$s in their pocket. Stick to what the manual says and tell them to pass on the other stuff. The main thing to remember is the first oil change at 1K and every 5K there after with Mobil 1 and Toyota filter. Follow the owners manual for the rest.
