It will never happen. Removing a working Cat is a Federal offense. The way the tC is designed, CARB wont happen.

Default No turbo kits for the tc has a carb exempt #!!!

Hey, I am from cali too and i just wanted to let you know that no turbo kits for the tc is carb legal. i have the gredd kit for my tc, and it is not legal. the only turbo kit comes closest to being carb legal is the dezod kit with the cated downpipe. it is still not legal though. all the kits are not carb exempt because they all remove the primary cat.

That and the stock cat would melt from the extremes of the turbo.

if you burn a cat up with an rich a/f ratio, does that make it okay b=to buy an aftermarket one? What if I was under my car and accidentally drilled a hole into my stock cat? Could I legally replace the header as long as I put a new cat on somewhere in the exhast?

CA law says it needs to be documented by a licensed official to do so.

The entire process of CARB approval. Is them to approve the part replacing the factory part as for emissions puposes.

Of course, if a car comes with 2 cats. It has to have 2 cats to pass visual inspection. There is nothing stating CARB will not approve a turbo kit.

Turbonetics as far as I know are still in the lengthy process of carb approval. They could have decided it was too costly to do so and quit, but I dunno.

As far as I know, Every passenger vehicle, Older than 1995, and equipped with the obdII system Has 2 cats.

So it has nothing to do with tC design, To my knowledge, All cars, if not most have 2 catalytic converters that meet the previous stated conditions.

I do not think there were very many cars with OBDII that are older then 1995?? I think you mean newer then 1995. Also not all OBDII cars have 2 cats either.

Well 2g DSM only have 1 cat but still have 2 o2 sensors. I am sure there are more out there. What you really need to look for is cars that are not trying to meet the highest of CARB standards. The reason so many come with 2 is because the front cat is very effective but CARB requires the one under the car past the engine compartment.

Turbos will pass all but visual.

No kit will pass visual test, because none carry a carb # plate, card or sticker.

There are carb legal turbo kits, just none for the tC

There are a lot of states out there now that use CARB standards. Be aware before you have a problem.............

Not all 95 where OBD2 either. 96 started the wave of OBD2.

Paul is right though. That was the year OBDII was required in the US just a lot of car manufactures tried to beat the deadline with most of their cars.

I know what year it started... Never said anything about Paul being incorrect.

What paul did do was make a rhetorical statement.
