View Full Version : She was pretty so i took her home...
DownhillSpec 11-14-2006, 02:53 AM so i bought an AE86... i saw it on the side of the road and the price was way too good to pass on. it has 0 bondo on the unibody and no rust... the engine has 193000 on it but hey... its a toyota. that and the chances that i am gonna leave a single cam motor in the thing are slim to absolutely none... it just has to get me through the winter. i'd post pics but my camera is being retarded... so its red. and everything works... yay for me!!!
ryukenden 11-14-2006, 02:54 AM fix the camera and post some pics! :tap:
ratcityrain 11-14-2006, 03:18 AM lucky bastage....
ohcanada_00 11-14-2006, 04:19 AM must kill erik and make sure in his will the AE86 is left to me.....
jordon6001 11-14-2006, 04:45 AM Dude. sick.
I found one next to my buddies house. It has some bad ___ exhaust coming out from behind the front tires, but otherwise, its a rust bucket. Hopefully we're going to buy it and make it a drift champion :P
willlangford 11-14-2006, 05:48 AM sweet! if you need a new motor or other parts from japan let me know i can import damn near anything and no not a skyline...yet.
So what about your tC? Now you have 2 cars to dump money into.
neolusions 11-14-2006, 07:14 AM Downhillspec... name now fits the car! Initial D
DownhillSpec 11-14-2006, 02:28 PM my figurance is that one of the hardest parts about gettin into drifting is finding the right platform... i have that now... so for now it is going to be a commuter car so alls i gotta do is keep it running. i would like a 20valve sivler top motor... so if anyone has the hook up on that it would be awesome... also anything from "Toms". it is BONE stock and that is killing me but i just dont have the money to dump into it right now... its bad enough that my tC has to take the back burner for a little while till i scrape up enough funds again to work on that. the 86 needs a new alternator found that out last night when it was dark and rainy... windshield wipers, defroster, wiper motor, headlights, and radio all together equals dead battery... dang.
FoxRunner 11-14-2006, 04:57 PM CONGRATS....NOW COME JOIN US
DownhillSpec 11-15-2006, 12:37 AM the thought hath crossed my mind to steal my dads tacoma for a weekend and go muddin with you wattora types... matter of fact theres a wattora truck parked in my apartment parking lot right now... big, primer black, SR5 pickem up truck with fender flairs... dont know who it is though oregon plates.

Jenna 11-15-2006, 07:34 PM I keep checking this thread for more clues as to what the hell we're all excited about, lol.
Some sort of Toyota car that probably off-roads, is my guess so far. I could probably Google what it is but that'd take all the fun out of it I guess, lol.
Waiting for pictures and congrats on whatever you bought!
kkawana 11-15-2006, 07:37 PM lol@ Jenna...almost... i think its a car that is rwd for drifting... i think... or at least can be set up for drifting
neolusions 11-15-2006, 07:40 PM Jenna go rent Intial D.... its the "white" one...
Jenna 11-15-2006, 07:44 PM kkawana... I'm very glad I seem to not be the only one confused!
Neolusions... you've given me another clue. It's a car in some movie.
draxcaliber 11-15-2006, 07:45 PM the ae86 is an old rwd lightweight car made by toyota in like the mid 1980's. it became legendary as the feature car the hit anime series 'initial d' which i am a rabid fan of. the car is a great vehicle because it is a light rwd with a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. lucky owners of the car who held on to them long enough have enjoyed a sudden spike in resale value because now all us anime/drifter nerds really want them to become legendary downhill specialists in!

Thanks for the explanation. I learned something else... DownhillSpec's name means something. What, I don't know. Don't bother to explain though... I can't handle learning more than one thing a day, lol.

Jenna 11-15-2006, 08:14 PM Downhill Specialists.... DownhillSpec....
Yeah, that's what I saw that tipped me off. I don't know what it is though.
But enough thread jacking. Sorry ya'll. Go back to talking about that car.
neolusions 11-15-2006, 08:16 PM The car was also mention in F&F3... which i would say is probably the best of the 3... Veilside Fortune rx7
It also called Corolla... AE86 is the frame name =P
Its like calling the tC an ANT-10 but that would attach us to a sedan ; ;
draxcaliber 11-15-2006, 08:20 PM that is one car i would get it i hit the lottery, i would buy a complete replica ae86 from the series. i might spruce up the interior abit, with a decent sound system. and ofcourse, everybody would be like "why on earth did this cracker specifically want some old white and black japanese hatch back with yellow fog lights? lol, put the mamma lucia's logo on the side and become the fastest delivery specialist in the moco prefecture! lol
neolusions 11-15-2006, 08:24 PM I found the car downhillspec bought!!!!!!

Harshaw 11-16-2006, 02:12 AM great car
BeaumontTC 11-16-2006, 02:12 AM It's winking at me! Oh, god why is it winking at me!
Kanchi 11-16-2006, 02:17 AM  my buddies & I have been looking for a decent one for years! All the GTs's are like 5k and the sr5's are like 3k! And they are usually trashed &/or thrashed by the previous owners. Oh well (glaring jealously in Erik's direction). Just remember to turn the tach around like in the picture so everyone else can see what you're reving!
neolusions 11-16-2006, 02:39 AM Kanchi GTS 2.5k
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/233884646.html
draxcaliber 11-16-2006, 02:44 AM sigh, i love to look for them on ebay and drool at how nice it would be to have one...
Kanchi 11-16-2006, 02:50 AM Thanks Tony! My buddy really wants a hatch though...He found a pristine GTS with 96k on it, black on black and it was taken care of very well. He called on it asked if he could come see it that night, by the time he called to get directions it was sold for more than he was asking!
We found one on autotrader.com for 1700, but it had a rotary in it...WHAT THE HELL IS A ROTARY DOING IN A CORROLLA?!? Sorry about that...
draxcaliber 11-16-2006, 03:12 AM did anybody see that v8 ae86 in super street magazine a few months ago? it was an 86 with the lexus 4.0 v8 and an automatic, talk about wrong... though it was still a nice car.
neolusions 11-16-2006, 03:16 AM ask and you shall recieve!

neolusions 11-16-2006, 03:24 AM though i like the ae86 im a bigger fan of the sw22 mr2
draxcaliber 11-16-2006, 03:29 AM lol, then you should watch initial d stage 3, he races an mr2. seriously, everybody who is into japanese cars should watch that series, it is addictive!
initialize!!!!!!!!
DownhillSpec 11-16-2006, 03:33 AM yeah mine actually is the style with the trunk... which is good because they actually balance better than the hatchback model... less weight at the top... that and it has a trunk that i can mount a big ridiculous spoiler on!!! j/k would never do that. now its time to hunt down a set of TRD springs and struts... stock ride is killing me. got the alternator.... need to install that tommorow. found a place to get a 20valve for a little more than a grand from japan with 60K on it (wiring harness included)... now i have benchmark for funds to aim for. camera is still broken which sux cause i promised pictures of both my new seats (in my tC) and my new baby. i'll prolly steal either my cousins or my dads soon and post up some pics (fingers crossed) tommorow.
draxcaliber 11-16-2006, 03:37 AM sure it may balance better, but how will you deliver tofu? and make sure to drive with a cup full of water!
actually i just don't like the way the sedan looks, but still, it is a hachi rouku man, you are a lucky lucky guy!

Good Luck!
DownhillSpec 11-16-2006, 04:26 AM ouch... wish i had the money. hopefully they will still be some around come x-mas.
Kanchi 11-16-2006, 04:29 AM Those were the true TRD ones! They had Tom motorsports ones for like $60 shipped! I searched "ae86 springs", se what you find, just stay away from the "coilovers" that use you stock strut.
neolusions 11-16-2006, 04:45 AM http://i13.ebayimg.com/01/i/08/11/12/0b_1.JPG
this belongs in the decal post but this is just for ur car erik =P
draxcaliber 11-16-2006, 04:49 AM drifting is not a crime, but wreckless driving is...so yeah, it kinda is...a crime...
bBlover 11-16-2006, 11:35 AM  awaiting pics.
ratcityrain 11-17-2006, 07:03 PM ya I want some pics too
DownhillSpec 11-18-2006, 01:11 AM and believe me kids... i want to put up pics so i can continue to brag... but my camera is toasty so new plan... im gonna take my tC to the meet and greet in beaverton... hopefully tu will bring his camera like he normally does  and then he can shoot a couple pics of my new seats and then i am gonna stop at home on my way to big als to grab the 86 after the meet and greet and hopefully i can get tu to get a few pics of that while im at big als... but we'll see what happens.
update:
so i finally got around to doing the first oil change... anyone ever done this on a used car... first thing you do is pray that the drain plug isnt stripped out... after that you pray that oil actually does come out... you also pray that oil is the only thing that comes out. not coolant or metal shavings or chunks of bearing material... after its drained you stick a magnet up inside that sum beach and fish around for the forementioned metal shavings and chunks of bearing material... good news... i didnt find either and or.
after that i got a little excited and went for the differential... i was optimistic... that went away quick when i cracked the filler plug and something that looked vaguely like runny orange sherbert came out... not so good... so i drained that all out and took out the removalbe third member only to find that the stock differential in an ae86 is astoundingly resilient... it was in perfect working order. just dirty as all heck... so i cleaned it up and crammed it back in (not really, its a little difficult to get back in).
so the good news is this... it leaks oil... but the bottom end is solid. i havent cracked the tranny yet but i know that the rear seal is bad. cause it leaks like crazy... why is this good news? cause its leaking oil... not burning it. so still hunting down a new oil pan gasket and a rear seal... problem lies in that i dont want to do the rear seal till i do the clutch (convenience issue) and i dont have the dough for a clutch right now... so it will continue to leak oil... next is the tranny flush and reseal and rebuilding the carbereutor (cause whenever i get on the gas the cars falls on its face)... oh fun fun fun... i love project cars. oh yeah i need plugs and wires too... mostly i just need the 4ac thats in it to run well till the end of next summer when i imagine i can afford a 20 valve 4age. then its on like donkey kong in a yellow thong... yeah thats right... that thong tha tha tha thong. ok im done... i just get excited.
mattross 11-18-2006, 01:30 AM Sounds like you got a lot of work to do. Is this an SR5? if so you will have even more work to do.
DownhillSpec 11-18-2006, 01:38 AM yep... SR5 with a trunk... anyone know where i can get the rear discs off of a gts? this is another thing on my list of todos... but i have more good news....
story time:
when i was in the army my squad leader (phil) was married. his borther in law is a regional grand high muckymuck for TRD. so i asked phil if he could get me a good deal on the TRD struts and race springs for my new found 86... he said that toyota doesnt get them anymore but his good friend bob from "drift office" could give me the hella hook up on them... so im going up there (auburn) after the deck the hall ball to meet with the drift office guys and pick there brains about options for the car. yay for me and my recent good luck.
mattross 11-18-2006, 01:46 AM There is a place on East marine drive that I used to get parts for my 86 at. It's called Toyota/Mazda Auto recyclers. Basically it's a junk yard for Toyota and Mazda. You can get almost anything there. I bought 3 LSD rear's and 2 transmission's there as well as countless axel's. (big power little parts).
DownhillSpec 11-18-2006, 01:49 AM hmmm i know what im doing tommorow morning... well if they are open on weekends... hey matt... you going to the meet tommorow?
mattross 11-18-2006, 04:10 PM I'm not quite sure yet.
DownhillSpec 11-18-2006, 05:49 PM update:
i just joined a group in these parts called kungfutouge... they is strange people but no one has made fun of me yet. today is car meet day though cause now i have another meet later after the sonic thing.
WeDriveScions 11-18-2006, 08:07 PM I'm not sure if I've met some of those guys or not... XcessiveSpeedz meets out there as well... but across the lot... I've gone over to the starbucks side once and hung out, but there is a shady'er crew on that side of the lot... The guys that meet at moonstruck, or by the bank are a little more under control and not so prone to in lot burnouts and street racing/fighting...
I hope it's not the bad crew I've seen over there, but on saturday nights, that area is crazy cool for lots of import tuners (most with not crazy expensive, but nice rides) Have fun.... 10PM is way late... and darn cold :P
MAXAM 11-18-2006, 08:53 PM I went on a touge (however u spell it) on the berryessa mts in california... 5:39minutes in my ae86 vs tc (intake/exhaust) 7:38 for my laps ... i would take the 86 anyday but it aint as comfy as the tc =)
Importspeed 11-18-2006, 08:56 PM so you joined another group lol
so do they all drive ae86's or just a mix bunch of cars???
DownhillSpec 11-19-2006, 09:02 AM umm these kids is crazy... though they were ok with the fact that i brought a tC to there meet (i wasnt sure my 86 would make it to beaverton and back). i ran into the speed concept guys down there as well... there was a high speed chase that ended poorly but besides that just tuners kids talking smack and showing off cars... it was a good time.
scion04xb 11-20-2006, 03:37 AM Wow your a lucky dude! I been looking for one for awhile and I keep finding rusty ones and I don't want to deal with the rust issue.... Good find man!
