Changing the gear oil **FINAL ANSWER**
So, just in case someone misses it (there always seems to be those folks around here, eh?),
Use GL-4

thanks though... I want to change my gear oil at some point in the near future, but will probably wait until the mileage builds up

However, many modern cars such as the xB either have steel synchros, or a different alloy of brass that is not affected by GL-5. Page 220 of your Owners Manual says:
MANUAL TRANSAXLE
Oil capacity, L (qt., Imp.qt.):
1.9 (2.0, 1.7)
Oil type:
Gear oil API GL- 4 or GL- 5
Recommended oil viscosity:
SAE 75W- 90
So you don't have to use the harder to find GL-4.
