Use GL-4



thanks though... I want to change my gear oil at some point in the near future, but will probably wait until the mileage builds up

Some manual transmission, especially years ago, had brass synchronizers. Gear oil with the GL-5 rating, called hypoid gear oil, contains sulfur extreme pressure additives, so it can be used in differentials having hypoid gears which shear oil. The sulfur can react with the copper in the brass to shorten the life of syncrhos.

However, many modern cars such as the xB either have steel synchros, or a different alloy of brass that is not affected by GL-5. Page 220 of your Owners Manual says:
MANUAL TRANSAXLE
Oil capacity, L (qt., Imp.qt.):
1.9 (2.0, 1.7)
Oil type:
Gear oil API GL- 4 or GL- 5
Recommended oil viscosity:
SAE 75W- 90

So you don't have to use the harder to find GL-4.
