Default Need help~ squeaking sound after installing the pully on XA

Hi all mighty scion owners,

I' just recently get a used 05 scion xa (I spend 13.5 k, kind of paying too much but that's a different story anyway).

I'm a totally newbie on car modding and I just installed injen SRI (6 hour) and Parren Pulley (3 days) fallowing the instruction on scion life.

In the past couple days i notice that - when i turn my wheel all the way to the right, and than step on the gas slightly, i'll hear a squeaking sound when the car's moving (but no sound if the car's not moving).

however if the wheel 's not turn all the way to the right than there's no such noise.

Any idea what cause the problem?

maybe i install the pully wrong or I didn't put on my tire correctly?

please help a clueless guy who don't know much about the car.

Thanks,

Tony

I guess you should describe the squeaking a little better, is it a shrieking sound of a metallic squeaking? If it's more like a "reeeaak reeeak" then it could be that you simply need to tighten up your belt a little more by prying the alternator over a bit and having someone retighten the bolts for you.

well, the sound is more like faint whistle (when hear inside my car's driving seat with window down... and the wierdest thing is that it make no sound when car's not moving.

so far it only happen when i turn my steering wheel all the way to the left or all the way to the right, than i'll hear the faint whistle when i move my car.

the belt for the alternator is very tight... but the PS belt is a bit loose compare to the alternator belt i think

i paid about the same about for my 05 xa rs2.0. The bluebook has it about that price depending on condition.

a faint whistle? like wind passing through? I'm thinking it could be that your splash guard or something is not in place? Idk, it's really something that you need a passenger in the seat and the window down to find where it's coming from. I had a lil squeaking at one time and I found it was the swaybar mounting in the front, a simple tighten and it was gone.

It sounds like it's just the power steering. Is it a "ssssss" type of sound? If it is and it only occurs when your steering wheel is turned ALL THE WAY to either the left or the right, then that's normal. If it's a squeaking sound then it's probably due to loose belts. However, from your description my guess is that it's simply the power steering and so you have nothing to worry about.

BTW did you feel any noticeable difference after installing the pulley? I'm thinking of getting one and am curious as to how they perform.

Ya, like the last one said, I get a slight power steering noise if I turn my wheel all the way one way or the other.

.... Anyone know why you get this sound anyway?

You are loading the pump, great way to blow the seals out your rack. I turn to the lock when making sharp turns, then back off an inch so it does load the pump like that.

It makes that noise too at speed, but the yelling of the passengers and squealing of the tires drowns it out.
