Default remote start easier to steal?

i'm going to be getting my viper 791xv with remote start and i was wondering if the remote start would make it easier for the car to be stolen. anyone?

Rule of thumb is.... if they want it bad enough it doesnt matter what you do, once their in the car its as good as theirs. Dont worrie about it getting stolen thats like worrying about a safe falling out of the sky onto you.. not much you can do about it.

totally agree there. i'm probably going to have the remote start installed just cause its a cool thing to have, but does anyone have some definitive answer to the question?

to have the remote start.. you're going to have to bypass the stock immobilizer system.

but then again... most good alarms have their own too. nothing really definitive...

but yea.. like the other person mentioned... if they want the car that bad.. they'll get it.

i have that and i call it a day, if they want the car bad enough it easy to pay someone to get it towed in a heartbeat.

on my remote start, i still have the engine demobilizer. the best thing you can do is to get a 2way and make sure that they install the brain of the alarm deep inside the dash, and really hard to access each part, cause if they want it.. well you know .. :/

and ive seen the infomercial for the lock that tikbhoy is talking about. that thing is freaking built to last (they shot a shotgun at it and it still didnt come off). imo, i think having that bright yellow thing will cause more attention than anything else, saying that you might have something to be hiding.

i forgot where i read it, but over all your best bet would be to make sure nothing is exposed, tinted windows bring attention that you might be hiding something, and generally try not to make your car bring so much attention, all make it safer for your car

well...

you kinda have to look at it at another standpoint...

if the car's gonna be hard to steal... theives are still gonna take something if they break into the car... (i.e. stereo equipment, money, documents...) whatever they can get a hand on.

like geez.. i've heard of a smash and grab and all they took was a sweatshirt and deodorant.

most theives nowanddays break in the car to steal what's inside the car cause it's quick vice the car itself.

I completely agree with this. The majority of your theives don't have the knowledge to know how to bypass stuff and get the car started, let alone what do with it after it's stolen. It's much easier to smash a window and take the 200 CDs, or stereo system than it is to steal a car and make money. The people who do take the car are most likely professionals, so whatever you have installed, they will bypass it. Haven't you ever seen Gone in Sixty Seconds?

though... that trailer queen of a car... i wonder if it had an alarm system installed.. *shrugs*
of the over $100K spent in that car.... you'd figure an alarm system was...
