just got some Dual 6.5" 3-Way speakers for the front doors... alright, so there are gonna be some people who ask "why would you put in THESE speakers???" i know, i know. not exactly components. BUT i did get them for 20 bucks (and they're gonna have blue L.E.D.s on em to match my interior lighting. so its some show and some added sound quality (in other words, save your time and don't bash for not buying a big upgrade). on to my questions:
1. will amping these speakers make a big difference as opposed to running them through my new panasonic head unit? (speakers are rated at 140w max, 50w rms)
2. ill be using 16-guage wiring if i am them (is that okay?)
3. i hear that ill need new baffles... since i'm not good at doing them myself, how are these? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zkPs4Lr...3200&I=142SAT6 (i assume they'll fit the front door....)
thanks for the help, i'll keep you posted on how things go as i get answers and materials

Whats the head unit rated at as far as the RMS?
50W RMS sounds about right though. You won't need to run an amp to these speakers. Your head unit will max them out.
16 ga is fine
I'm not sure if you'll need new brackets.

You get what you pay for.... thats all I'm gonna say. I wouldn't even bother installing those, but its your car so whatevs.
If you do install them, get your baffles from here:

your going to need to fab up some kick panels if that's the case.

1. if the amp is rated at 60x4 rms and my speakers are only 50rms each, will that be okay as long as i don't turn the gain too far up (don't want to blow any speakers...).
2. to those of you having amps running speakers and another amp running subs, did you put both amp power cables through the little grommet hole the same way (the power cable going from battery to amp route). I know the space is tight, and another 8-gauge wire seems like a REALLY tight fit.
3. if i get new rear speakers, i'll need baffles for those, too, correct? as for size, are 5.25" good back there or can i fit 6.5" without any modification?
thanks for all the help everyone!
1. Just keep the gain on the amp around 3/4ths the way, and you should be alright.
2. Drill another hole.
3. Depending on how deep the rear speakers are, you may or may not be able to fit them. You will also have to drill new holes so you can mount a 6.5inch speaker.

I wouldn't put Dual speakers in an 81 Chevette... But hey, I understand the desire to use what you got. I wouldn't bother amping those cause you'll just be replacing them in a few months. I'm an MECP certified 12-volt installer, I might know what I'm talking about, but you should really invest in a decent set of components for the front and maybe throw your duals in the rear.
