Did they smash the window or just slim jim the lock?

You may need the glass breakage sensor adjusted to a higher sensitivity. Are you sure that the alarm didn't go off and you just didn't hear it? It will re-arm itself after it goes off.

Hmm. Have you given it a test yourself to see if it goes off when you open the door? By sitting inside and arming it, then opening the door without disarming. Test all the doors...not just the drivers. Yeah, I'm grasping here. I don't have any good ideas.

Sorry to hear about your loss melic!
But if someone wants your car or something inside your car bad enough, they'll always end up getting it. No matter how well it is protected.

Alarms are more of a "feel-good" devices for the owner. They will protect you from some casual thief or come kids messin' around. But nobody is ever safe from a seasoned thief.

Sort of like the airport security screening. It only makes you feel safe. When in reality if a terrorist wants to blow up a plane, he'll find a way to do it.

Its a dog-eat-dog world out there.

Can anyone explain why the alarm went off on a BMW Z3 on a used car lot, when all I did was bend over to peer inside without touching the car?

Are you sure you set the alarm?

Living in an extremely urban neighborhood, I've come to detest auto alarms... they sound so frequently that nobody pays attention- particularly not the car owners...

Better than any alarm-

yes i alwaysput it on im so paranoid growing up in the hood so i always do but again i feel so good to have my alarm "yeah right" the on eday i put my guard down is the day they get me so who knows. the other guy that got jacked got his alarm messed up so who knows how they did it. everything is a possibility i could have left it unlocked but i doubt it.. i just know that it was in my work place in wide open between 5-5:30 we also think they got interupted cuz they left both doors open like they got spooked or something. but o well what is lost is lost and it teaches me a lesson. sadly that i already knew. ;) anyways im returning the stock alarm and getting that monkey alarm. jajajajaja... bastards.. at the end they got jacked cuz half the shyt the took was broken or in complete, i had an ipod on thier that was malfuncioning a i730 that was broken and i was fixing it, the dvd writer they left the power cord behind.. and a bunch of girl tools. pink screw driver flower pliers soo at the end they took more emotional stuff. but like the saying goes what goes around comes around..

Sorry to hear about your break-in. I never was impressed with factory car alarms, I usually go aftermarket, and this time I did get the glass break sensors too. I have haven't had a problem so far, Knock on wood...

It must have been that. I walked up to the BMW Z3 on a used car lot with no one else in sight, and bent over to peer into the side window to look at the interior. I then became aware of a wailing noise, and realized it was coming from the car. It was an alarm, but I had not touched the car or even come any closer than 6 inches away from it. I avoided touching it. Just my proximity to the car must have set the alarm off.
