Default AUTOMATIC RPM

this might sound stupid but i was driving home today and i was noticing that my automatic keeps shifting at really low rpms now im not saying somethings wrong its just theres a lot left in the car before it would hit redline so i was wondering if there would be a way to change at what rpms an automatic shifts at? any ideas?

Floor it.

They wont shift at redline normally. If they did they would be very inefficient and would wear and tear faster. If you are not on the throttle hard, they will shift at a more economical point. I am guessing it is probably shifting between 2500 - 3000 rpm.

If you floor it and hold it wide open throttle, it will shift much higher, because you are under heavy load and obviously trying to accelerate hard.

yeah, but why would you want it to?

as far as upshifting before redline, it does that for better mpg.

when i'm just cruising at say 40 mph, i can be in 3, 4 or 5th. the higher the gear the less gas i'm using.

if you just give the car partial throttle, it will shift at lower rpms for steady acceleration.

if you mash the pedal to the floor, it will shift at a higher rpm for faster acceleration.

understand?

As you drive more you will learn the system and be able to control your own shifts to some extent. Just keep driving it and experimenting safely.
