Default Bad day or should i be this dissapointed

Ok so in short i ran a 18.6 .622rt with a trap speed of 72.856. Its an auto with magnaflow cat back, injen short ram, and perrin pulley. Oh It was also my first run at the track and unfortunately, I only got the one run in.

Is this what i should be expecting? I thought this is what a stock auto would run. Im perrty dissapointed, I have vid of my launch from the other car i ran against. It was a 1996ish Jetta with an intake, axel back, 17's and a sub in the trunk. He ran an 18.1.

Alot of the problem is, i think in my launch, For some reason i cant get the auto to move from a dead stop, ive tried neutral drops on the street and its the same thing. The thing is i take off faster in normal driving than i do when i try to launch. I think this is a huge part of it. So wat ya think.

I know that in auto mags when they test an auto they typically hold the brakes and get the revs up. It's obviously something that shouldn't be done often, but to get a better time out of the gate, that is what I would recommend.

why are u racing a box in the 1st place?? i don't even race my tc... its not a race car. and anyway, bolts ons like an exhaust and intake aren't significantly going to improve your 1/4.

Ya skinner thats what i did but it like chokes off the line, i dont get it. I rev to bout 2k and jump off the brakes.

Stealth i never asked if i should race my car, i askd how i can improve racing my car or if this is what is to be expected of my runs at the track. Its kool that you dont run I wouldnt run a tc either, But the fact is that i can do what ever the f*ck i want and thats why im racing my box. if you have anything significant to say please do so.

I also realize bolt ons wouldn't have a HUGE improvement on my time but i expected more,

I was just talking to another guy that works here and he says that in order for it to work best, wait until right before you launch and give it about 1/2 throttle (1500-2000rpm). He said that it boggs down because it is overloading the system with fuel (if I understood him correctly, I'm not too good with autos).

Try that and let me know.

Every one in the world expects a Corvette, or an Evo or Porsche...etc. etc. to be fast. Be different. The look on peoples faces is priceless when they see an econo car tear it up at the strip, especially when you beat cars that you arn't suppose to even touch.

Hmm.... That does sound reasonable, Ill try it and let you know. it sucks that the track is like 30 mins away, cause by the time i can round up the crew and head out we only had time to get 1 run in. But some neon blew a oil line or something and spun out on his own oil so it took bout an hour to get that cleaned up.

Next time i wanna throw out the rear seats. I got to say tho even with the crappy time, It was a Great experience.

you have to ease into any input change, even when dragging. i have not thought out or proven any of the technical details, but i have experienced the same thing, especially with automatics.

when you floor it, the throttle plate opens to the fullest and the fuel profile should shift towards performance. although the ecu is running the engine for performance, your engine is probably still at low speed. getting all that slow moving air through the wide open throttle probably bogs your engine just like an excessively large intake.

you should also do some research on torque converters. there are ranges in which they are more efficient than others. they can have problems within different bands too.

research, practice, and be sure to ease into the throttle rather than jamming to WOT.

^^See this wat im talking about, Your right i should do some research on torque converters, I did. Learnd a thing or two, but got more learning to do.

Next time im not even bothering with brake torquing, As well as flooring. I now realize some mistakes and hope i can get more than 1 run in next time. Deffinately i got to say man ^^^

Oh, quick Q. Does reaction time affect final time? I thought it did but then some one said in the official 1/4,1/8 mile thread that it doesnt.

Practice makes perfect or at least pretty darn well. I've never dragged an auto, but it always worked better for me when you feather the throtle when leaving the gate. When you get a chance to get in more than one run, try diffrent techniques. I would like to just try brake tourwing it again but instead of WOT right when you see green, just gradualy step on it just to make sure you get the traction first. No one filled me in on launcing on my first time, I did no research and ran not so impressive times. But then I just messed around a bit and found what works. It's a lot of trial and error I guess.
