Lost the key for Scion xB!!!! Please Help!!!
Lost my key for Scion xB over the weekend. My question is: Is the xB key is one of those key that needs to be programmed?
Because I thought some keys are just give my VIN number, registration, etc and dealer will cut it for cheap cost. Also wondering if it needs to be chipped.
Please someone help.

xA and xB keys do NOT have chips. Just plain mechanical keys.
Some dealerships do retain the key tag info, and can cut you a key - others don't.
The keys come with a small metal tag with a number on it. That number is all that a dealer needs to cut a key. When I got my Scions I made entries in the contact list on my cellphone (Scion xA and Scion xB) with the the key code from the tag. That way if I lose the key I can call a Scion dealer, give them the key code, and get a key cut.
Good luck!

You should be able to get a key from a Scion dealer using the serial # on the plate behind the windshield...
And they shouldn't give it to you unless you have ID and some proof of ownership, but ymmv...
Call ahead- some dealers may not provide the service...

True, Big Bird, but then you'd need to unlock the phone.
(Some dealerships DO note the five digit keytag number on the paperwork they retain, but others do not. There is no requirement for them to record it. If they don't have the keytag number, I don't know of any way for them to cut a key "by rote" like thay can with the tag number. The car VIN doesn't tie to a specific tag number.)

Most dealers have access to key codes for all thier
vehicles, given the V.I.N. and the dealers log in info. for
their tech line services. The factory knows
what key code any given V.I.N. was given, and records the information for reasons such as this, in the system. Well, at least thats how it works at Acura/Honda. Hyundai, Isuzu and GM.. I suppose they might not... but I don't see why they wouldn't... then again I have no idea how Toyota works internally.
