Default Scion tC: ANY problems?

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum, but I'm going to purchase a new Scion tC 5-speed within the week.

There are a couple things that worry me though and i want to confirm these problems.

I've read that there are some problems w/ tC's such as...

- rattling sound from moon roof

- weird noise from engine at 5000 or higher RPMS

Are these fixable?

also, has anybody found any other problems?

OK, you're new, so here we go again..

Use search, at the top right. See "Search here first!" That's an order.

But I will answer your two concerns:

The rattling in the moonroof is nonexistant for newer made tCs. Mine is number 14405, and it does not make any noises of any sort. To those who bought theirs right away and have the noise, a Service bulliten will be out shortly on how they can fix it. So get that problem out of your mind.

And I am not aware of any engine problems...

At the end of your VIN, it has a number. Should be one-two zeros then some numbers. The number is the number made of that model.

People have reported tranny issues.
Rattles from all over, not just sunroof. My car rattles from the front vent, rear hatch, right rear speaker area, stereo door, dash and a few other places.

Windnoise is also high. People have had several issues. Make sure to search throughly.

No issues to report on my car, 3k miles on it.

Mostly reports of the sunroof rattling because the bolt wasn't torqued down right.

That Nick guy writes about tons of issues he has in every thread. It sounds like he got a lemon if he's legit.

Just remember to ignore Cybergypsy on everything s/he says, doesn't even own a tC.

I don't know if I consider my car a lemon or not. A lemon to me would be reoccuring mechanical problems. So far the car has run decent, but the interior is just falling apart. Took it to the dealer to fix the rattles and left with more than I came in with. I was going to take my day off today to go through the car and see what I could fix, and discovered the dealer broke so many clips/panels that I don't want to try, cause I don't want them blaiming it on me. The right rear panel that covers the speaker is basically completely loose. All the clips are broken. The front right a-pillar is bubbling up again after I fixed it the first time.

I'm sure they are all issues that can be fixed, but my concern right now is that they AREN'T fixed. I took it in on July 29th to get these problems fixed.

Sounds to me like the dealer is the problem in your situation. If they broke a bunch of stuff to try and "fix it" then it doesn't seem like the car is at fault.

Hopefully you get it all worked out tho. Maybe try another dealer?

the tc has a cable clutch so its more bumpy than most other manuals and the tranny feels real weird, so that will take getting used to. The exhaust system blows, it has two cat. converters on it and its way stopped up. The only noise I ever get is a little bit of a pop from the back of the car on rare occasion. You will love this thing in the canyons once you get used to the abnormal clutch and tranny. This car is a real whiner so unless you get the heavy duty clutch from trd, and the exhaust system, be expecting it. -Matt

I do believe the clutch's are hydrolic, probably shares the brake fluid. Hell my mx-6 is hydrolic and it's 12 years old.

Clutch will use brake fluid, but not share it.

Clutch is weird. Its notchy and you can feel the motor through it. If you have it down and rev the car, you can actually feel the motor through the pedal. Tranny is also a bit weird, as it is also notchy, which is strange for a Toyota.

As for my car, the dealer broke a the clips/panel, but didn't fix the original problems. The dealer is getting the parts just as fast as any dealer can. If the parts are on National back order, no dealer can get them any faster than any other.
