what's the purpose of shortening a shifter for an automatic?

there's a way to make it APPEAR shortened by getting the obx shift **** and using the manual connecter.

but other than that, i dont see why anyone would waste their time shortening an auto shifter and re-tapping it..

Uhh... I can think of one regret I would have if I shortened the shifter in a auto tc: it would be that I was the guy who shortened the shifter in a auto tc.

please say that you want to know about this because of styling and you aren't expecting the car to shift faster for better acceleration.

I put on a very countersunk, razo shift **** ball on my auto and it shortened the height by at least 2 inches.

sorry, but you never know, if your on here as much as i am, you see all sorts of stupid questions. like a kid whothought the tc was rear-wheel drive. another who put on a throttle body spaceer and said it made a huge difference when we all know soros has already gotten one and dyno'ed it and showed a loss in power.

but shortening an automatic shifter shouldn't be a problem because it isn't like you have to change your shift method. it will still move along the shift pattern same as always.

thats funny bout the RWD!!!

with sortening the shifter, is it just as easy as: taking off the ****, taking a hack saw to the shifter shaft, buying a thread tap from home depot or somewhere to re-tap the shaft, and reinstall the ****??
