6 speed....XRs Tranny!?
Im just trying to figure out if there is another toyota that would be easy to swap trannies with so as to make the tc a six speed, and it would be cheaper then a kit.
As a sidenote i was wondering if the Matrix or Corolla XRs trannies come with a limited slip diff?? does anyone have experience with this?

if it was possible, it would of been done by somebody so long ago, but it hasn't, so i'll have to no. also, how would it be cheaper than a kit? what kit are you talking about, i haven't heard of anybody changing a swapping manual trannys for the tc.
not to say it can't be done, but it hasn't been done yet, and if it was as easy as swapping in a matrix/corolla/celica 6 spd in, it would of been done by now. and i haven't seen an aftermarket tranny for the tc yet, but supposedly zpi is trying to make a 6 spd with lsd.

Yeah sorry the ZPI was the one i was talkin about, and the other limited slips out there are at least 1200 so i was figuring if u could do both combine it wouldent be as much...
I guess with hondas and alot of other cars it is much easier because trannies are easier to find, with newer cars it dosent pay off.....

5 for 6? are u kidding? its alot more efficent, also have you ever gone 80? once you get to 4th gear you loose alot of passing power, and at 80 its at like 3500 rpm, and that guzzles gas. Also on power turns w/o the limited slip spin the tires and result in lots of understeer, and i want to fix that.

i drive two hours one way every friday and saturday between school and home everyweekend. on friday i drive durring the day with some traffic on the interstate going about 70 mph, i get around 34 mpg, but on monday when i leave at 5 am and have the interstate for myself, i go about 90 to 110 mph and get about 17 mpg.
there are other factors too, like going to school is going uphill into the foot hills of the applachian mountains, while doing home is downhill.

i would love a 6th gear!!! the car just feels like it needs one...sometimes when i get through all the gears on the freeway i pull it out of 5th to go for a 6th and then i realize oh crap i dont have a 6th gear .......i get a little depressed

If you bought the tC for mileage, thats your fault. They post the mileage on the window.
With our tq and power curve, I am more than happy with 5 gears. 6 speeds are nice in some situations and suck in others simply because you waste more time shifting. If you have the tq to run taller gears, then that is the way to go. I get 30 mpg on the highway, which is fine by me.
But this has been discussed about a million times if you search.

new people never search, but with my ADHD, it is still fun to discuss over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!

Regarding going 150.. tell me when you would do that. With the turbo kits out, virtually no one will ever pass 135 in 1/4 mile. So that is useless. If you do it on the highway.. you are just plain dumb. And I dont see a lot of people running long road courses or oval tracks in the tC either. So top speed would almost never be a concern.
As for mileage, lets say you get up to 36 mpg with a 6 speed on the highway. If you average it out for most people you will save about $200 per year in gas. Considering you will probably spend at LEAST $2000 (and that is cheap salvage parts and doing all the work yourself) on the tranny swap you will start saving money in 10 years. Again, worthless.
The 6 spd would be fun to drive, but that is about it for most people. I guess if you dont like the motor sound at high speeds it may make some difference. Not that I wouldnt like it if it came stock with a 6 speed, but I wouldnt waste my time swapping it out and doing all the work to get one in the tC.
