Default Anyone know of a 5 or 6 channel amplifier that...

...pushes at least 100w x 4 @ 2ohm load + >250w x 1 @ 2ohm (or bridged between 2 channels) <-- i'd go down a little if someone knows an amp that has the features below but with a little less power

...and has bandpassing capability on either the front or rear channels (the crossovers must go up to atleast 3kHz) <-- this is a MUST

...and has a S/N ratio of >105dB <-- 100dB would be acceptable

Please give me reccomendations!! Thanks so much!!

I've got the birth sheet for my MTX 5400x @ 12.5v:

85wpc @ 2ohm + 261w @ 2ohm on the sub line

SnR is 112/95 (f/r/sub), so that's not quite what you were looking for.

I actually haven't used it since I got rid of my truck, but it worked great for powering two sets of components and a 10" sub.

that snr is fine, but how are the crossovers on that amp?

^ No bandpass capability. It has the range you're looking for, but would lack the low-pass filter you want to keep the highs out of your mids.

I wonder if the eD amp you're considering has dual power supplies. If not, you might be compromising sound quality by using a 5 or 6ch amp that has a single power supply. The problem is that when the bass hits, the power supply can't adequately power all 5 or 6 channels, such that you can hear it in the mids & highs. Just something to keep in mind, but is sure is nice to be able to tri-amp with a single chassis.

mmm gotcha... i'm sure eD has thought of this??

and im not going to be using the amp to its full potential (175 w @ 2ohm is what it's rated at at 12.5v... so probably 200w in my car... haha, ill be using about half of that for the mid woofers and even less for the tweeters)

http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/archive/thunder5400x.cfm

Four of the channels feature an 18dB/octave Butterworth defeatable and continuously variable crossover (50Hz - 200Hz). The front channel has a 40x frequency multiplier (50-200Hz/2000-8000Hz). The fifth channel is a dedicated, class D subwoofer channel, with an 18 dB/octave low-pass crossover (Butterworth, continuously variable, 50-200Hz).

Anywho...

^ Yes, and do you see what's missing? While he could use the front channels for the tweeters, it lacks the low-pass filter for the rear channels, as required to keep the high frequencies out of his mids. That amp only has high-pass filters for the four channels, not a complete crossover for them.

Or are you trying to imply that it has both high and low-pass filters for the rear channels? If you use the 10x setting for the fronts, are the rears automatically low-passed at that frequency? I ask because that's not indicated in any of the specs I've read for it, nor in those you quoted.

This one looks close to what you were asking about also. Specs at the bottom of the page, the one on the farthest right.....

^ Nothing there indicates bandpass capability for any of the channels. Soundstream has made some great amps, and I know their Reference 705s model would meet his requirements, but it's no longer made (I don't think the one you linked to is either) and might be difficult to find.

Yeah, and unfortunately you can't pull up any of the owners manuals for the new reference series amps to check......
