View Full Version : Edmunds.com Drives the xD! Rich_Manas 04-27-2007, 02:51 AM http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FirstDrives/articleId=120549 SHU 04-27-2007, 09:05 AM Hello Rich. I've been lurking here for a few weeks and checking out the internet for new info on the Xd and I have a question that maybe you can answer. I did a search on this and found out that TRD parts are extra for dealer installation ( I'm new to scion) but I have not been able to find out if scion/toyota has any standards for what dealers charge for installation. I use to sell for nissan so I know the game. Do you know if any dealers publish this information (pure pricing). Are the TRD parts installation like back end profit (F&I) for the dealerships so they can bring home the gross? Thanks for any info you can provide . SquallLHeart 04-27-2007, 09:14 AM no standards that i've seen.. i've seen some dealerships rape people for labor costs.. and some others very cheap and reasonable. all the typical pricing should be able to be seen for each dealership. and salesmen are not supposed to push accessories... it's supposed to be a pressure free environment.. though suggestions and answers should be fine... however it is in the dealership's best interest to have you purchase accessories, because that's where the dealer is able to actually make any money.. as the car itself.. they make barely any profit at all. in the end.. you still need to shop around and do research prior to getting the vehicle. Rich_Manas 04-27-2007, 05:01 PM Hello Rich. Thanks for any info you can provide . from my hometown not brooklyn but queens. :) to answer your question not every dealer is the same. i'll use my dealer as an example. when the tC cameout my service director wanted to charge $400 for labor plus parts for trd springs. we fought back and forth as to why he shouldn't charge that and he said we were charging toyota $600 for the celica and this is $400 and plus it will take our techs a long time to install. i said yes it will but after they do they will be able to cut the hours in half when they get used to installing them. after debating back and forth, i gave him the speedshop example where owners can go to any speedshop and have them install the part including labor for $300-$350. we need to be close to that as much as possible and eventually we hit a compromise of $399 parts and labor for the springs which i think is very resonable for a dealer install. sorry for the long post but just because its pure price it does not mean every dealer will charge the same for labor. its up to the dealer to set labor pricing and as long as they charge everyone that buys the part it will still be called pure price. SHU 04-27-2007, 11:17 PM Thanks for the information Rich. I was afraid it was going to be that way. From the prices I've seen alone on the Doc fees I think the locals will try to rape a guy on TRD part installation. Its a shame too. I can't see myself buying the Xd without the TRD parts and I wanted everything to be financed so I could put my extra money to work for me in stocks. But I might be moving out to arizona later this year with my job so maybe I can find a dealer out there who won't be so bad but I have my doubts. I'm already going to have to buy some light wheels and tires and a good short ram so that will easy run me over a grand so its not looking to good for me getting a Xd. By the way what part of queens you from? I'm in greenpoint, BK. Thanks for the info. Thirty-Nine 05-01-2007, 06:34 AM I wonder what this little guy will do 0-60 and the 1/4 mile in? indigo_dave 05-01-2007, 01:36 PM I'm waiting to hear reports of the xD's fuel economy. I'm considering the xD, Honda Fit, and Toyota Yaris (liftback). I need about 55 inches of cargo length behind the front seat. Aside from that, fuel economy will be my major consideration. Thirty-Nine 05-01-2007, 03:29 PM I'm waiting to hear reports of the xD's fuel economy. I'm considering the xD, Honda Fit, and Toyota Yaris (liftback). I need about 55 inches of cargo length behind the front seat. Aside from that, fuel economy will be my major consideration. If it uses the 2ZR-FE engine that's in the Aurius, then it should get 16.8km/L or 39 mpg. chicotunner07 05-01-2007, 04:04 PM what i find most interesting about this little bull-dog is the dual vvti, this is hitting honda territory people, i wonder how aggressive it will feel when it engages, and how it will sound with an intake and exhaust.......i bet it will be more responsive to mods as well :eyebrow: Thirty-Nine 05-01-2007, 04:18 PM VVT-i does not engage; it is constantly working. It's simply variable valve timing. VVTL-i engages (the "L" = lift); the valves are opened up farther like VTEC. Currently, I believe the variable valve timing on VVT-i is only on the exhaust side for emissions purposes (I couldd be wrong). The Dual VVT-i is on both the intake and exhaust side. VVT-i = Variable Valve Timing - Intelligence VVTL-i = Variable Valve Timing and Lift - Intelligence Also, I'm not 100% sure the xD will use the 2ZR-FE w/dual VVT-i. SHU 05-02-2007, 01:08 AM Man I would love it to run like a V-TEC. I use to have a 96 prelude with Vtec and when that thing opened up you could hear and feel that v-tec kick in. It was sweet! But the little xD is not that kind of car but that would be nice And hey 39. I thought the 2ZR-FE w/dual VVT-i was a done deal and absolutely going to be in the xD. Have you heard something? Thirty-Nine 05-02-2007, 05:07 AM No, I haven't heard anything; I just wasn't sure if that was the engine code or not. Phyre76 06-03-2007, 06:04 AM The Dual VVT-i will allow the engine to be both "ULEV" as well as more efficient. Comparatively to that of Toyota's 3.5 V6, when compared to the previous 3.3 V6, there was a significant increase in HP AND economy. In this particular case, since the Block and Displacement isn't being altered(the 3.5 is a re-stroked 4Runner 4.0) you will just get better economy and emissions, which are fine with me. BTW the "Dual VVT-i" is NOT "Hitting Honda Territory" Dual Variable timing were first on European cars first, I believe. I'm probably mistaken, however I do believe that Honda does NOT have this tech. in the Honda line up. Acura? I don't know. Oh whatever, this was a better article compared tot hat last one. And there were a lot of positive notes which I thought were great points. carwashindad 06-03-2007, 04:26 PM I'm waiting to hear reports of the xD's fuel economy.
