Are they necessary on the tC? If so, what milage intervals? Thanks.

 

From what I know, the valve lifters are hydraulic... so they adjust themselves.

 

Well here's my issue:

My engine has made a more and more audible ticking noise over the last couple weeks. When I had my Integra, that was a sign it needed a valve adjustment, so at least that possibility is eliminated. Last time I went to the dealer, I got my last "freebie" oil change and the dumba$$ "mechanic" there put "10w40" on my window sticker and "10w30" on my print out sheet. Both wrong oils for this engine. I called and questioned them and they reassured me that they used 5w30 despite what my sticker and sheet said. Could wrong oil be the problem? Sorry this is so long, but I appreciate any input. Thanks everyone.

 

The tC has a pretty loud valve train to begin with, and the injectors make a pretty good clicking noise to when the are firing! I noticed the noise on mine getting a little louder after break in period.But I got almost 20k on her now and still sounds and runs like she did with 3k.I also put Synthetic oil in at the first oil change of 3k too, and I herd that some synthetics make motors sound a little louder somtimes,but I don't know how true that is.No worries though,she's bullet proof!(well almost!)

 

I THOUGHT THE SAME THING BECAUSE I OWNED AN INTEGRA AND WOULD ADJUST THE VALVES BEFORE EVERY RACE BUT THESE TC'S ARE PRETTY NOISY.ALSO LIKE SOMEONE MENTIONED IT'S ALSO THE INJECTORS.

Incorrect. Even though they are hydraulic they still need adjustments. I am not sure how often. To adjust the tC's valves the cam has to be pulled because the it uses shims. From what I have been told it will be around 100,000 before they need adjustment. Don't quote me on the mileage but that is how our valves are adjusted.

 

well they do adjust themselves....but it won't compensate for the wear overtime.....but for the most part you don't have to adjust them unless you re-do the whole engine which would be somewhere well over 150k

 

If the valves do need adjustment then you really cant say at a certain mileage like 100,000 miles because some people drive hard all the time which would need adjustment sooner then that.

 

That's what a Toyota tech told me. I haven't adjusted valves like the ones in our cars that requires shims. I don't really know when they will need adjustment. I have 48,000+ and I race my car all the time at the track and sometimes on the road ( I don't like to street race though and very rarely do) but my valves sound fine for now.

 

You shouldn't need to reshim your valvetrain, unless you change out the cams. That is unless you just dont take care of your car and dont do regular maintenance .

 

Its called normal wear and tear, even with regular oil changes it will need to be done sooner or later, unless you don't ever see 100,000+ miles.
