Are you powering the built-in antenna amplifier with your head unit? If not, that may be your problem.

i tried all sorts of stuff to make the reception better but no luck so i just went with the sirius radio, much better in my opinion then normal radion, but thats just my 2 cents on that

Because of the rear glass mounted antenna on the xB,it requires an antenna amplifier. The amplifier requires 12 volts when you turn on your tuner. Most tuners have a lead with the correct output. You just need to connect the amplifier lead from your new deck to the black with red wire, pin 8,connector A, and it will work perfectly.Good luck.

Default Antenna Booster Q

For 2005 xB, I just need to connect the black with red wire, pin 8, connector A to the power antenna wire on the new head for the antenna booster to work?

See: Radio Reception.. - Scion xB Forum

I put a JVC head unit in 2 years ago and thought to myself.....that figures the fm/am reception sucks, it was alright though, I used my iPhone and with bluetooth had everything I needed. So this week my daughter just turned 16 and she wants a better stereo than the factory am/fm cassette that is in her 2002 Forester, so I do some research to see what I need to do and it's like..... what power for the antenna....the thing is in the window, it don't go up and down. Well a little more research and I learn about the amplified antenna. Remembering that I left that wire unused in my Box(because my antenna don't go up and down..... haha), I pulled the unit out hooked up the wire and WOW, all kinds of reception. I guess I'm too old school....when I was young power antenna's where on high-end cars....not toasters!
