I was very disappointed to find out that HKS's chrome-moly steel lightweight flywheel for the tC well........ doesn't exist........ so is a Fidanza aluminum one the only other option?

And before you tell me about how tCtunerz carries one, one of their distributors must be messing with them because HKS verified that they do not exist. They've made 1 ultra-light flywheel and its applications are for a 90-93 Celica All TracTurbo and 90-95 MR2 Turbo.

 

Creative Compacts has one by Clutch Masters, I think.

Oh, sorry. The was another one talked about in the Power Hungry section a while ago but it was aluminum too. Doesn't look like chrome-molly is used alot anymore.

 

I had a fidanza lightweight flywheen in my GSX. Worth every penny I spent on it. I heard they are a pain-in-the-ash on lower HP cars, though.

Why must it be Chromoly? The aluminum ones work just fine and they have Chromoly contact plates.

It will make your car revv a lot faster. not sure why it would be noisy though.

 

depending upon the material, we had a lightened segmented fly on some minis and it was louder. It's hard to explain.

Makes it rev faster.... but also loses some of the engines inertia.

 

It makes the car rev faster and easier. I'm not sure if it reduces driveline loss so that more HP goes to the wheels, but in my GSX it sure as heck felt that way. As engifineer said the revs drop quicker. It wasnt a problem on the last car, but I don't know if I'd want one in the tC.

Seriously though, the one I had for the exlipse was like 9lbs. I don't know if the weight varies by application...

The lighter flywheel will definitely make it a faster reving engine but will hurt you a little off the line. For drag racing, I would stick with the heavier flywheel, since your rpms stay high throughout the race. The lighter flywheel will force you to have to rev higher to take off due to loss of inertia. So for drag takeoffs, it is not as good. For more of a road race type application, the light flywheel would be a better idea, as you constantly need to go from a lower rpm to a higher one quickly.

 

i still haven't gotten used to how slow the revs fall in the tC. compared to my old GS-R it feels like forever. i thought of getting a lightweight flywheel to change that but it seems like a lot of work and $$ for a car i won't really race.
