Electric Scion iQs Adopted for Car Sharing Program

It’s good to hear that these little Scion iQ EVs are getting a home in a place that will appreciate their weird, battery powered, shenanigans. After all, the iQ is one of Scion’s most… uh, creatively, marketed nameplates. A batch of 30 will get their chance in the sunlight when they’re loaned out as part of a car-sharing program in Pleasanton, CA.

The idea is to give people another option for short trips (around 40 miles) around town that doesn’t involve their cars. Ideally, the program will lower the amount of cars on the road at any given time thus making Pleasanton a more pleasant town to drive around in. It should be pretty inexpensive too: the electricity in the iQ will only cost about 85 cents for every 25 miles.

Researchers at nearby University of California Berkeley will be performing studies on how the community reacts to the new program. I’m assuming that if it goes well, they’ll be the first to tell the world about “how great the Bay Area is if you don’t have a car” (Geez we get it – L.A.)
