HOONIGAN Meets Supercharged Scion FR-S Race Car

HOONIGAN gets the build breakdown on Michele Abbate’s Scion FR-S.

For the past three months HOONIGAN has been on a roll with their daily videos. Called the Daily Transmission, they cover the goings-on of the company’s Long Beach headquarters. Usually, something, or someone, fun shows up and burnouts, donuts and drifting ensues. It’s really a great time, and a lot of fun to watch.

Of course, when a very modified FR-S popped up, we had to cover it. If the name Michele Abbate sounds familiar, it should, she was one of the contestants on HOONIGAN’s search for a race car driver. Dubbed “HOONIGANS wanted,” it’s another bit of must-watch video.

Built for SCCA Pro Racing, in STU class, this Scion FR-S has a lot going. Under the hood is a 330-ish wheel horsepower FA20 engine, assisted with an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger setup. The body has been modified as well. Easily spotted is the Five:AD, formerly Five Axis, lip kit paired with a large front splitter, multi-straked diffuser and a large APR rear wing. We also see a Seibon dry carbon fiber hood, and trunk lid. It’s sitting on Wedsport TC105-N wheels and Federal brand race rubber. Behind the Weds are Wilwood 4-piston caliper brakes. Abbate is quick to point out that the team at GRRRacing, mainly Michele and her husband, handled the work themselves, it’s a real privateer effort.

That’s all well and good, but HOONIGAN is here to ask the hard hitting questions. Namely, can it do a burnout? Even with race brakes and super sticky slicks, the answer is a pretty resounding: yes.
