Scion tC Ranked Most Popular Car Among Gen Y for 2012

According to J.D. Power, Scion’s marketing towards the young buyers paid off in 2012. Over 50% of people who bought the tC in 2012 were between the ages of 16-35, or a part of “Gen Y” as J.D. Power calls it.

The fact that half of the tC’s buyers fall into the that age bracket is pretty strong indicator that they’re an attractive deal. Part of the reason they’re so popular is likely the price. I’m sure it helps that they’re not ugly, can carry five people, and has a real trunk.

Strangely, the tC is the only Toyota to make the top ten. You might imagine the well-reviewed FR-S might’ve placed, but it didn’t. I Imagine the small number that made it over here were snapped up by older, better funded buyers. The other cars on the list are largely unsurprising: A lot of Gen Y’ers like Acuras and Volkswagens.

There were some weird ones though: 34.7% of people who bought the Dodge Challenger last year were in the Gen Y age bracket. Weird.
