wow it does look really nice
its a little too much for me though, and the tC still has a better price.
that head unit looks pretty sweet though.
i think honda did a good job on the new civic, unfortunetely, we're going to be seeing a lot of them around.

only good thing, is that we'll see less tCs on the road

Friek 09-16-2005 12:53 PM

wow... I use to own a 2k1 civic and was wondering when they were going to release a civic with more than there 10 year running quoted 125-127 HP. Funny how I just got a scion 1 month ago... coulda waited for a civic hehe.

I don't like the styling.

It has a very european (french) influence... infact the more I look at it the more I think it looks like my Mom's car back in England.

She drives a Peugeot 307 CC (the hard-top convertable).

It's the short front end, and long back end. Just feels off balance to me.

Peugeot needs to start selling cars in the states... I would be first in line for one of these....

Sorry...back on topic... that new Civic, huh?

DarkLighter 09-16-2005 01:16 PM

I think it's a really nice styling. I'm no Honda expert but the back end looks a little like the Accord doesn't it?

BreakTheStatic 09-16-2005 01:40 PM

I think it does a little bit. Car companies do that intentionally for brand recognition. That way when you see the civic, you'll associate it with the "honda style".

Makaveli 09-16-2005 01:50 PM

not what i expected from the concept... there are some good things and bad things about it. i thought they were gonna come with some better wheels and the front end looks ugly. the best thing about the car is the interior, i like the new dash and the audio/head unit...way better than scions.

MonkeySan 09-16-2005 02:05 PM

I think the exterior looks kinda bad. Sure, it's very different, but the design does not flow from end of the car to the other. It has a very steeply-raked windshield and low front end, like a Camaro or something, and the side mirrors look strange because of their location. The interior is nicely done, although I saw somewhere that the new design cut like 4 inches of legroom in the back of the coupe. I like the way I have been seeing the price of the Civic Si touted as "below 20k", when there is no way it is going to be since the EX is around 19k. Gas mileage will be good, except for the Si, which uses premium gas, of course. I had thought about waiting for one of these but opted to buy the tC instead (still waiting on it), and after seeing the Civics, I still think I prefer the tC.

They did, back in the late 70's, early eighties. They were percieved as slow and poor in quality. They eventually tanked and pulled out of the US, as did Renault, for slow sales and supply line repairs with no ablility to get parts in a timely fashion.

Ps. nothing French made is going to fly in this country for quite some time...

Pps - I "really" like Peugeot World Rally cars... (307WRC)...

Fm_Tc_In_Ma 09-16-2005 02:15 PM

The interior looks hot. I wish Scion put that much thought into their interior.

ElChupacabra 09-16-2005 02:23 PM

New Civic is trash. Its an over-priced mini accord. I was actually worried for a while as a Scion employee about the new civic. Now Ive seen the prices, quality, and design Im no longer worried at all. Edmonds.com said with certain seat positions you cant see the speedo behind the wheel on their dumb "two teared" instrument panel. Didnt Honda learn nobody wants digital speedos when people stopped watching Knight Rider in the 80's? tC is a much better value. Hands down. I bet the 5sp civic at the same price point wont squeak tires hittin 3rd gear... ...I love torque!

(As an employee of Scion we do not suggest aggressive driving, i.e. sqeaking tires into 3rd gear. However, its wicked fun!!)

honey0bucket 09-16-2005 02:47 PM

that is an accord...hands down....and if scion did anything more to the interior (wich i think its beautiful just the way it is) it would just cost more money. if you wnat your interior to look "better" pull it out your self, mask it up, take it to a body shop and have them paint it whatever color you want. I work in a bodyshop aned we do this all the time. all in all, i would have to pass on the civic. There is no flow like the tC. now the hatchback civic(at least ithink thats what it is) that i do like, looks like it could be fun.

Not to say that this is the case with this car... But, higher compression on NA would require premium gas. The compression ratio on the engine plays just as much of a role as a turbocharger when it comes to deciding gas ratings.

As for the Civic... It's ok. But a couple of small things pull away from the fun stuff that made a Civic a Civic. They got rid of a throttle cable for drive-by-wire. So much for that peppy go-cart feel the older ones have. High RPMS is still gone compared to the older Civics, though the new Si has it once again. I dunno, just not my cup of tea. If I were to buy a Honda again, it'd be an S2000.

Haha... don't suggest it... but if you do it, give your car a couple or 3 thousand miles before driving it really hard... give the engine a chance to break in.... an engine is like a new pair of shoes, you have to let them wear in a little before you can really enjoy them.....

By the way... isn't this a Scion site? anyone really worried about the Civic?
I mean, I started out a Honda guy, but I really lost interest after the 6th generation civics (96-2000)... I still have my 97 hatch, and I'll never give it up... but look who I work for now :lalala:
