Default Anyone Else Hear About this

The other day I went to my mother's bank to take care of something and was talking to a girl that works there.. Our conversation started with her complimenting me on my purchase of the bcp tc.. She started telling me that she was new at that bank and that she worked at some Toyota office (didn't disclose much info about the office). She was telling me that some time towards the middle of 2006 Scion is supposed to come out with some sorta of hybrid. Now again she didnt disclose which model the hybrid would be or if it would be a new model not yet out. But she was saying since Toyota was getting great sales reviews on the Prius that Scion decided they would do something as well... I personally have not heard anything about it and I do know that many people here do, do their homework when it comes to the Scion line of cars. So I was wondering if anyone else found out something....

In other threads on this site people have speculated that a hybrid xB will come out in a few years...

Totally just a wild guess at this point.

edit: Come to think of it, Toyota has issued press releases saying that every car they make will have a hybrid powertrain available as an option in a few years. I have wanted to know if that will include Lexus and Scion... for the sake of argument in some other threads I've assumed it does, but who knows?

Would not make any sense to put scion brand on it. Hybrid is expensive and scion should not be expensive. I can see full sized sedan toyota hybrid but not scion. Besides, Xa is already getting superb mileage.

That whole line is not right. It's not like Scion is a seperate entity, and they just decide to release something. A better saying would be, Toyota is having great hybrid sales, so Ford i making a hybrid too..
Toyota would have to make a cheaper hybrid to work with the Scion brand.

Thats what I meant I was merely phrasing it the way she said... However I agree with you...

Negative on the Scion hybrid.

August 06 ends xA

Dec 06 ends xB

Their 07 replacements will share the tC platform and engine.

4 special editions for the upcoming year.
2 are set.

Early 06(March/April) 06 xB in the green that the Vitz has in Japan. With an Alpine DVD headunit and LCDs in the headrests. Kind of like the Yellow but with green and the DVD system.

Early 06(April/May) 06 tC Luxury model in a deep blue - close to the new Tacoma "Speedway Blue"- with 18" wheels and the IS Lexus Seats in it.

August 06
For a final hurrah there will be a special edition xA - Undecided content as of now.

Dec 06
For a final hurrah there will be a special edition xB - Undecided contentas of now.

i would have to beg to differ on the no hybrid thing.. i have been told that yes there will be a hybrid scion.. just not in the near 1 year future..

BUT OMG if the RS 2.0 tC is Speedway blue. I am trading in my Tacoma and getting that! F the need for the truck! I wanted that color in my truck now but hubby didn't like it, but if i get it in the tC all would be good in my neighborhood! oh i can't wait!

OK so we get this straight I'm getting the feeling some people are getting a little hostile here with this post. In my original post above I mentioned a girl at my mom's bank whom claims to have worked in 1 of Toyota's offices claimed to me that Scion is coming out in mid 2006 with a Hybrid.

I reluctant to fully believe her beings I did not hear this prior to that conversation. Chose to post this up here to find out if any others heard this as well.. I in no way was stating that this was factual in any way. I personally think it would be a great and also a smart thing for Toyota's Scion division to release a hybrid.. I wanted to pass the word on and see about finding out about more info.. Thank you..

Under dog of hybrid technology. Would not be hard to add rear transaxel with EPA tested and proven hydraulic hybrid system independent of engine. Would estimated 80+MPG and additional acceleration power be too expensive at $600 per vehicle? The EPA has large plans to use for vehicles like buses and garbage trucks. Why not have as option on FWD autos? Would improve acceleration performance and efficiency by about 40%!! Would Scions benifit from this?

i think they will make the tC a hybrid, toyota is supposed to come out with a camry hybrid late 2006 early 2007 if i'm not mistaken, so since both cars use the same engine it would be easy to transfer to the tC

Don't count on a hybrid Scion before 2009.

Scion officials have said that a hybrid Scion is not feasible because of the price premium.

This could change with Toyota's third-gen Synergy systerm that will be lighter, more efficient and substantially cheaper.

A Japanese newspaper reported that the price premium for a hybrid model vs. gasoline model will be cut by 50% with the new system. They also reported Toyota will look to double the amount of hybrids it sells from 300K to 600K. It seems Scion would significantly help them do that.

As long as they look as nice as they do now and drive as sweet im happy...hybrid in an xB and xA would be amazing since a lot of people that I see buying them now is because of the epa!

It seems very unlikely to me considering the Scion price range, the fact that hybrids barely break even profit-wise and Scions have very close margins due to the low price and pure pricing scheme.

Nothing about it adds up and it doesn't make good business sense and Toyota very very rarely does ANYTHING that doesn't make good business sense.
