Buell motorsports is dead - R.I.P.
YouTube - Messaggio di Erik Buell che annucia la vendita del marchio
Buell bikes were not the norm when it came to the "big 4" rivals from the land of the rising sun. They were down on power, and somewhat fugly design. That, coupled with some serious design flaws (and some good innovations) and dealership issues (only available through Harley dealers, which is the enemy of sport performance enthusiasts) led to a demise of what was FINALLY on the right path with this years rotrax-engined design of the 1125R (and removal of the kiddie like, buell blast - which only made 40 something horsepower).
All I can say is RIP Buell.

Guess this is a mirror to the auto industry. Smaller arm of a domestic brand has a reputation of poor performance and reliability, improves quality and performance but still has the stigma from the non-faithful, then gets axed by the daddy corporation. Sadly a sign of the economy. Sorry to see Buell go, from what I'd heard they had gotten a lot better. One more reason not to buy a Harley now.
I've got a 1981 Honda CM400A and it runs like a top, doesn't have a spot of oil on the ground and ruitinely gets 60+ MPG.

they can look pretty decent if you bob em a bit . makes a decent semi cafe .
Just watched the video. Sucks you could hear in his voice the disappointment as he said he looked forward to working with Harley Davidson, knowing they pulled the rug out from under him.
I'm turning the 400 into a cafe. It's my first bike, wasn't licensed until May so i didn't want to go too big and the price was right. Auto is a godsend on the morning commute with traffic lights every 500 ft. My main point is that it's as old as I am and still running brand new. Say what you want about Honda's cars but they build a nice motorcycle.
For speed I've got other plans. Picked up a '79 GS 750. Engine is half torn down at the moment but I plan on going with a full build on it and running ET. This video gives me some naughty ideas, makes me want to try a Garrett GT15. Already found cams, pistons, and a few other goodies.

I have a bunch of mods on it already (that pic was the first day I brought it home) and, it _was_ limited to 184mph.. I have since removed that, and can attest to the 190mph range, and I will be getting in the 200mph club after winter. My rc51 stops at 170mph, but the torque curve is NUTS on that bike. I am also working on building a honda 600rr stuntbike. Big sprockets = mad wheelies, but no top end.
