this kid i went to high school with got an r34 last year but its a gtt
this place in florida imported it i think and then he flew down and drove it up
its a waste of money imo... he payed 50,000 for the car, flew down to florida twice to check it out, and i saw on his facebook recently he did a lot of work on it which doesn't come cheap
...but pretty sure his mom payed for it all

Ya, the G35 is the V35 Skyline 350GT, but its not a GT-R...

When the R32 came out it was very groundbreaking, a total badass, and tore up the JGTC. The R33 came out, and had many more amenities than the previous model. The extra weight that came along with it made people think less of it, than the R32.

Pretty sure about that.

the R33 was a big step up in power but yes it included more luxuries than the r32. i think out of the 32,33,34 models, the R33 had the best power ratio, but i might be wrong.

the shop over here in DE (carv2) got a nurspec r34. it's sick.

I've always hated the looks of the R33 compared to the rest, and thats ever since I first saw one. They look like a camary or a mazda mx-6 (newer body style) In otherwords it may be an awesome machine, but it looks to plain-jane for me. The R32 and R34 look sweet compared to the R33, but thats IMO.
I love r33 so there BOND!!!!

The only place I knew that could legally import skylines was a company called Motorex in Cali. They would import them from nissan dealers in Japan. What happened was the company bought a bunch and crash tested them to get them legalized by the NHTSA and DOT. They kept the crash results and information needed to legalize them private (just one crash test cost 50K, besides the fact that the car would be wrecked). However, they were a sketch company from the start and the owner actually got convicted of Assault and Kidnapping (unrelated issues) so the company was shut down. A lot of people got screwed over too because their cars were already imported but couldn't be legalized. Now the only skyline that can be legally imported is the r33 skyline GTR with no side airbags. Or you can have it completely disassembled and shipped over. You can put it back together and have it registered as a kit car.

or you can get it registered in canada then "import" it from there.

or greymarket it as a nissan 240sx.

and it costs about 15k to legalize one.

Anyone remember the saga of GotSkyline here in ScionLife? That was way back in the day. Guy sold his box, bought a skyline but not through a Registered Importer. It got impounded fresh off the boat before it was even released to him. He couldn't come up with the fees for importing, etc. IIRC, it was like another 15-20K on top of the 10-15K he paid for the car. He didn't meet the deadline and lost the car. I think they crushed it. The closest he got to driving it was getting his picture sitting in it. Everyone here tried to warn him off of doing it but he lauhged and knew better.

That was some great entertainment, it dragged on for months.

Incorrect. you can't register it in the states once you bring it over from canada. Seen a few people try it. But the 240 thing CAN work if you know the right people lol.

You can love it all you want, I just love the way the R32 and R34 look better. Now if someone offered a R33 to me for free or a really really good deal to me, then I would not turn it down!

Rodlandscion is right. Almost any car over 15 years old can be imported into canada, with little to no modification. You cannot import a car into the US that had been imported into canada under that 15 y/o rule, I read that on the DOT/NHTSA website...

I saw a couple R32 GT-Rs and a JDM Toyota Soarer yesterday in Vancouver. Lucky people...

Not true. there are importers in California that will import them, and upgrade them to US spec and have them LEGALLY vinned. Then they are completely legal. I was looking into bringing a R34 back from Europe when i lived there.
Cost:

Car: about $20K
Shipping; About $1k
Import/parts/VIN:$15K

I wanted to so bad. And was ready too, but ended up moving to italy instead. So I kept my Porsche and didnt buy the skyline. Then I got married. So when I came back from Italy, it wasnt a priority

(I will fidn the shipping/import company ifanyone is interested. Its not hard, just time consuming. Oh and more expensive because you have to pay someone to find the car for you. I was lucky and could find it on my own)
