Default Got a new car this week

My wife ordeed this car on 9/9/2007! We picked it up on 9/2/2008! She has wanted one of these since she first saw pictures of them back in the summer of 2000. I guess we should have traded in the xB when we got it, but i just couldn;t see myself letting our Box go, so we kept it . She had been using the Box as her DD for the last year, so now i am going to take it back and use it for my DD and let my Caliber sit for a while(except when it snows, since my cali is AWD). My box gets 35+, while the cali gets 25, so that will save me some $$. Most of the people on the smart forums are reporting mid 40's for the smart. Time will tell, as we only have about 150 miles on it so far.

They are a polarizing car thats for sure. Of course, so is my xB, so i am used to that..LOL. I also went through it when i bought my PT back in 2000. The current wait for a smart right now is 18+ months.

i test drove one of these babies a couple months ago.
it is a VERY basic car and feels even more "go-kart" like than the box, but it's great.

nice choice! cheers.

Rather have an Yaris 3D or xD. Smart came out in europe like in the mid 90s. Old design. If you keep up on car design world wide the Smart is old hat. Annoy's as hell that everyone here in the States is go'n ape chit over it. Have'n said all that tho, they look fun. Congrats.

I hope you don't stall on the freeway, it will turn into a hood ornament!

Small doesn't necessarily mean dangerous. Big fords are 5 times more dangerous to drive.

I would rather be in a giant ford than a smart car stalled on the freeway

Thanks everyone!
Couper2...Yes, i suppose a Yaris, Xd, or a hon-duh would make a more practical choice. But how many people turn to look at a Yaris? How many people will come up to you in a parking lot, before you are even out of the car, and start asking you questions, if oyu are driving an xD. How many people will look at your car as it goes by and smile, if you were driving a Fit? That is PART of the attraction, and the big difference, between the smart and it's competition. It turns heads similer to when the box was first on the roads in 04-05.

impackt....a new smart owner posted about an accident he was involved in. It happened in the month of June, he was on I95 and was hit in the RF by another car that swerved to avoid someone who decided he really didnt want to exit after all...he was going 70 when he was hit andwas pushed into the center guardrail, rolled across the road three times and hit the guardrail on the opposite side of the road and landed back on his wheels. He walked away. The car was totalled, but the safety cage did it's job. The smart has the same crash test ratings as my xB.

mcheng08....I paid $14,500 for it.
Mileage currently is over 40, but it isn't broken in yet...looking for high 40's-low 50's once it is broken in. The EPA highway rating is 41, and i already got that on my second tank of gas with mixed city/highway, so the EPA estimate is way low.
