Honda recalls 25,000 Civics over gas pedals
Improper installation on some 2006 models may cause crash firm says
WASHINGTON - Honda Motor Co. recalled about 25,000 Civics on Thursday because the accelerator pedal was improperly installed on some 2006 models, which could cause a crash.
If the pedal is improperly installed, it could come loose, cause the throttle to stick and raise the potential for a crash. Honda spokesman Sage Marie said there have been no crashes or injuries linked to the issue in the popular-selling vehicle.
The “vast majority” of the 25,298 vehicles under recall in the United States have not yet been sold, Marie said. A dealer inspecting the vehicles discovered the problem in late September and reported it to the automaker, leading to an internal investigation, he said
Honda redesigned the sedan for the 2006 model year and it continues to post strong sales figures. The Japanese automaker sold 23,911 Civics in October, up 14 percent from last October, according to Autodata Corp.
The company sold 257,749 Civics in the first nine months of this year, down 1.2 percent from 262,958 sold last year. Honda did not immediately have a breakdown of how many 2006 models have been sold thus far.
The redesign includes a new floor-mounted gas assembly that involves the accelerator. The sedans under recall were manufactured from early June through early October, and countermeasures have been put in place on the assembly line to fix the problem, Marie said.
Owners were being notified of the recall this month and told to bring their cars to a dealership. Dealers will either reset the pedal or replace the assembly at no cost to consumers.

3rd Toyota in 6 years never 1 problem...

Granted Mike it does happen but like I said over the past 6 years not 1 of my Toyos has been recalled for anything I never needed to put it into the shop for some major repair.. Hense my making the above statement, that and the fact that I am just a huge Honda hater lol
i believe that first-year models are bound to have issues. like our Scion xB when they first came out in the states, people have a refilling problem. i also heard that the 2002 Camry SE were recalled not long after they came out because or something with the airbag...

What about the problems with the xB... Fuel filler neck, weak and recalled AC...
I had a lexus with engine issues... oil starvation problems... big issue.. they extended the warranty of the engine... but I got rid of it before it game me trouble.. My biggest problem with toyota cars is that they are boring...
Honda makes a better car built to be driven... they use double wishbone suspension... aluminum control arms.... toyota uses struts with stamped steel...
I bought the xB because it was cheap and I know will be reliable.... I also needed the room...

Oh well, I'm just happy that it goes to show honda isn't perfect. Neither is toyota.
And just in case anything comes up
Toyota> Honda in terms of reliability. Sure, they are very close, but take a look at CR and JD reports. Lexus is ranked at 1, and Toyota is still pretty close to the top. Honda and Acura aren't far behind, but they are still behind

Back in 2002 exactly 1 month before I had purchased my 2002 Celica Gt I purchased a 2002 Acura RSX and not even a year later probably 8 month later I ended up selling it and kept the celica.. I just hated the car is wasnt me.. The car was sluggish like a beaten dog, it was just a pain in the a** and in the course of the 8 months I had it I put it in the shop for various things.. Now I agree there is a recall for the wind splitter on the TC however I have yet to receive a recall notice on that and like I said I didnt have any problems with my corolla or my celica.. I know that honda is a reliable car just like the toyota but I just dont care anything for them..
Honda's are not as reliable as their reputation would lead you to believe. I've had 3. My first 89 Accord was probably the best built. In the mid-90's honda's got kinda cheap. They really cheapened up the interior and the manufacturing. The 94-98 Accord especially. The panels would break in cold weather removing them. The clips would break, also many less clips. The brakes suck. Honda do continue to run with problems, but the defiantely have issues. The newer models are not any better really. My ex had her 2003 V6 Accord in the shop 3 times in the first year. The check engine light came on after 8k miles. Honda is not perfect. I still have a 94 Integra GSR which I love but just spend $1250 getting the brakes and other items fixed. No where near as reliable as my 89 Accord was. I never had to do much with that, did burn out the transmission though. Honda autos sucked then.

Eh, personal experience can't speak for the overall reliability, in my opinion. Lots of VW guys have said they've been long term VW owners and they have no problems...but we know that there are tons of VW lemons out there.
Wasn't the 7th gen civic "facelifted" once, during the Mid Model Change?
Honda changed the rear end of the 06 accord, apparently at a cost of 20 million dollars. Honda made the mistake of styling the accord and the prior generation civic too conservatively.
But why the hatred with Honda? While many of their designs are vanilla, I don't think they are ugly. But whatever, that's your opinion.

honduh's are played out. they get all the aftermarket we get none. it's crap...
and imo they are very ugly.... and i'm pretty sure the 7th gen civic has 3 different headlights.
they also redesigned the front end of the new accords as well as rear quaterpanels and such.
