OKAY THAT ROX IF THIS IS TRUE! i still own my 97 RAV4L i been racing it for years now - msotly autocross. i can clear up a few things that were said. the car was built on CELICA ST205 SUSPENSION (the AWD is JUST LIKE A CELICA GTFOUR the WRC edition).

the chasis was not built on a corolla - but a CAMRY. in fact the rav4 and camry have had the same engine for a while now! firs teh 3sfe and then teh 2azfe.

b/c the rav4 uses a sports car suspension adn the chasis of a small sedan - the rav4 was never intended to be an SUV - but sales were better as an SUV. in fact on my insurance it states that my rav4 was a WAGON. lol

if what they say is true - if they are building the new scion on a rav4 chasis - THAT WILL RULE - and it sill suck b/c now im gonan want one! i love my rav4. i didnt trade it in for my xb - i kept it. ill never get rid of it.

i got a body kit on it - full suspension upgrade, racing seats, carbon fiber hood - im tellin ya rav4s are badass!

ok, Guys I just got back from a Scion round Table meeting with our regional reps. There are no plans for a sedan at all, all hype. The Xa will be redesigned and the Xb in a few years. As of right now Scion plans a life of three years on the XA and Xb and five years on the TC. They have discussed upping the engine in both the XB and XA.

What are they considering? The 1.8 out of the Corolla?

No, they are putting the RAV4/Camry/tC I4 in it. I got the info from Car and Driver report of the NYC Auto Show. That means a 2.4L 160hp box for you.

Easy on the salesmen now.....

Word is here that Scion most likely is not going to be releasing a four-door tC. It would crowd into the Corolla and Corolla XRS territory. I've only gotten limited information from my sources, and those sources say xB and xA are the first to get re-designed.

If this is even true, I wouldn't get too excited just yet, its still just a bunch of talk
I'm not sure were you get your information from, but i work on toyotas and scions every day, the rav4 used to be based off the camry for the first generation with nothing about it being suv but the all wheel drive, tires and ground clearence. the second generation still shares alot with camry, but not as much as the first(as a matter o fact , the solara, avalon, highlander and sienna vans all started out as modified camry platforms). The tc actually shares its front suspension and cradle with the corrolla, and avensis, but the rear suspension is a new design based off the celica. I have them up on racks everyday, and the tc actually looks alot like the corolla underneath the engine. I wouldn't put any cross platform melding past toyota for the release of the new scion, but my best guess is its either gonna be something of a stretched and restyled tc, or a camry or corolla with new exterior panel and flashy interior. But that last part is just an opinion. And i'm positive it will be out by november.

In a "small world" sort of coincidence, I wrote an article for my "blog", Carbinated.com, that discusses the different types of automotive websites, and I mentioned and linked to your excellent site in the next-to-last paragraph in this article I wrote:
http://www.carbinated.com/?cat=9

Little did I imagine there would be so much discussion here on a Scion sedan. A week ago, WITHOUT having seen this site or this thread, I wrote this other article:
http://www.carbinated.com/?p=5

Hope you like my "recipe", even though I admit that the chances of it being built that way are slim-to-none.

BTW, fantastic photoshop alteration on the Holden Torana concept. It would be cool if a Scion sedan looked like that.

Look guys, this is all old news. Check the threads, this has been stated several other times. Its true that the rav 4 uses the same engine as us tCers but the thing that seperates the Rav 4 from the Corola and the tC is the Suspension and the overall design.

It will be interesting to see what is done with this. Knowing the Scion guys, this will be a kick ___ design and a killer price. Scion corp, I love you! P.S. It takes about a year and a half to design a car usually more. Some cars like the tC can and were designed in less but usually 18 months.

A year and a half to develop a car? Umm...what planet are you on? Try 3 years.

p.s. 18 months IS a year and a half
