Now Jeep wants a piece of Scion
Along with Subaru and some of Mitsubishi, with these autobiles that are scheduled to come out on 2007.
Btw, it might not look it but the Compass Rallye is about the size of a Pontiac Vibe except sitting on lower suspention while the Patriot is the size of a Toyota RAV4 but stands as tall as a Subaru Forester.
However, the Compass Rallye is said to have a engine that will be "massaged" to put out an higher output than the standard 170hp 2.4l, as well as a rumored optional 6 speed. While the Patriot will be fitted with more rugged suspention as well as being larger.
Pricing is unsure but people are saying prices are set between $15k and possibly into the low 20s.
So are these domestics a threat?

Here is a good pic if you want to see the actual praportions of the Patriot and Compass Rallye.

As you can see the Compass is roughly the size of the Toyota Matrix, but not only sits lower but also has a lower roofline.
The Patriot on the otherhand sits just as high as a Subaru Forester but seems to be about the same size or at least width as the Scion xB.

No, actually the Patriot and Compass are built on the same underpinings as well as both or more likely the Compass having an FWD trim as well. But aside from that, they vastly differ in strut, suspention, chassis and their AWD systems may even be programmed differently.
In fact, more people look at it as a mini Jeep Commando.
Anyway here is a side by side comparison between the Jeep Patriot and Liberty.

The Patriot is about the same size as the Forester if not a bit smaller. You would have to fold down the seats and stack up the soccer team in order for them to all fit. In fact, you would had to have people stacked in the back with even half.
Which brings me to another thing, from the way I see it the Patriot is trying to offer almost everything a base Forester has, but at the price that might even cut into the Scion xB.
As for the Compass, it seems to be a car that is a fundimental cross between the xA, Suzike Aerio SX and a Subaru Impreza or even WRX with Jeep charm.
Even though I see a soccer mom driving Patriot, and it will be cheaper. The Liberty would fit more into the stereotype.

Are you talking about the Compass or Patriot. The Patriot to me and probably many other people would resemble more a Forester or Honda Pilot.
The Compass on the otherhand is not as long as the WRX wagon and its praportions probably match the Suzuki Aerio SX or like I said before Toyota Matrix more.
Also, you might not have to worry about such weather where you are but where I am there is snow and hail. Sure, FWD can handle well in most of the situations and ecspecially if you have winter tires. if you drive cautiously or most of the drivers around you do. But everyone doesn't have a set of winter tires and we should all know not everyone drives cautiously, even in the seemingly worst weather, so AWD can be a plus.
Not to mention for example when my dad was driving with his Grand Cherokee (not V8 ) to work on a small two lane road in the middle of a forest which he travels daily. However, this was right after an icestorm during late fall. On the way he encoutered a spot where the trees fallen on the road. He owned his own medical practice so he felt dedicated to get there. So he decided to manuver between the trees in and out of the road, into the forest while there was still sleet on the road. His car didn't slip, tip or get stuck in what was probably thanks to the ice a marshy woods. That is the advantage of having an automobile that is not only AWD but also testing and set up for at, not rock crawling, but off-roading. Sure, you do pay for it in more ways than cost, such as fuel efficieny and road grip. But in case situation like that arise, which can be more often for some than others, it would be nice to have that added capability. I bet some of the rescue and some of the utility personnel right after harricane Wilma are glad they do.

Well at first it was a concept coupe in 2002. But they greenlighted it in 2003r, made a redisigned scetch of it in 2004. Got an actual model made this year based using the Dodge Caliper underpinnings. And since the Dodge Caliper is coming out by the summer 2006, the Jeeps will be either according to this site hitting showrooms at the same time or at least very soon to follow.
So in other words, what you are seeing aside from the red lined tires and black rims maybe are pretty much the soon to be production models.

Seems like more of a threat to Subaru than Scion. Sure Scion's got a lot of good press, but none of these big carmakers are worrying too much about the 120, 000 - 150,000 cars they sell. It's more important to make the younger crowd take notice for future sales and I don't think these new models are going to do it.
Plus, they've gotta make a bunch of small cars with good mpg to balance out that overstuffed PIG on the top of the stack or else their CAFE averages will hurt... Seriously, tho, what does Chrysler know about good small cars?

Get a Matrix, Rav4 or a Sienna if ya just want a light weight 4x4.
And if ya really need jeep off road abiliies get a Tacoma Double Cab, 4Runner, or Toyota Landcruiser.
Safer, better gas milage and power per liter, dependable, and better build quality.
Sheesh.
