If they want to hit the right market they will probably follow the under 20k philosophy. I bet it will be under 20, maybe 15-18k.

It'd help to know what kind of vehicle it might be, but I'd say the under 20K is a good bet.

If its true that it will be a true sedan (not just a small 4-door like the xA/xB), the price will probably be closer to the 20k mark. Since future Scions are supposedly going to be styled after the tC, we can expect that the new Scion will be similarly equipped if not better equipped than the tC. So the price will more than likely be 18-19k assuming they stick to the under 20k mark.

highly doubt it
because scion is for all the teenagers
for their first car,
and they need something cool, and affordable.

i think its actually gonna be 20-23K....i know they are trying to keep it cheap..but im sure Scion would love to open up a more luxury based model for a wider consumer market...i know id love the dL to have some nice leather heated memory seats, multiple sunroofs, stock navigation, and all the fun Lincoln LS gadgets...

If scion is smart they will keep with the under 20k bit. It's been working wonders so far, why stop now.

yeah i agree, why would scion price the dl the same as the tc?! they are going to make it compete with the accord, camry, etc not with civics, corolla and the tc itself :?

If its a sedan, I think the car would be closer in size to the mazda3 or the Acura TSX; bigger than the Civic Sedan, Focus ZX4, Sentra, etc. but smaller than the Accord or Camry. Toyota would not want to make a Scion that would directly compete with its #1 selling car, the Camry. A base Camry LE would run you right about 20k but you would not get all the stuff all Scions offer like power everything, moonroofs, pioneer sound systems etc. So a smaller car (more or less a 4-door version of the tC) would run about the same (maybe a little more depending on how Scion equips it) as the tC does now. The tC pretty much made the Celica obsolete (from a business standpoint anyway) but the Celica was due for a redesign or cancellation anyway. Keeping the price of all Scions under 20k is important in order to retain the young customer base; if someone wants to buy a more expensive car, then they should go look at some Toyotas, that's the whole purpose of Scion, to help Toyota, not compete with it. What I have heard from customers is a lot about the Mazda3 and how they like the 4-doors that it provides. Many people have asked if the tC comes in a 4-door model and end up buying the Mazda because it doesn't. It would make complete sense for Scion to make a sedan that would directly compete (and promptly crush  ) the Mazda3.

Default Own a Mazda3 and a tC

Bought a new '04 Mazda3 s autostick <<--(really, what's the point?)two months ago for the woman......loaded w/ everything possible except navigation and leather for a little over $20,000.

A month ago bought a '05 Scion tC 5spd for myself ....... with 6disc, fog lights, security , all the airbags, ground effects......just about everything except the sub, cargo stuff and those dumb neons. All for a little over $20,000.

By the time you have bought your base model Scion, added all your aftermarket products and some have "riced" out a very nice looking ride, it will all be costing you just about $20,000. So what if they come out with, let's say a $25,000 whip with more features than our full-featured tC?? People will drop dough on it guaranteed!!

And finally, our tC's have more everything in every field compared to a Mazda3 (s, not the base i model). Both inline4's- ours 2.4L, theirs 2.3L. Both160HP. Ours:163LB/FT Theirs:150LB/FT
We have one-touch up/down windows on both and reclining rear seats.
Mazda3 has one-touch DOWN ONLY on drivers side and no reclining seats or second sunroof ..... yes, 4 doors, but what guy REALLY wants a sedan?

i really think scion is geared more towards youth and not just "teenagers" why would a company gear their line-up towards the 16-19 group? the idea is asinine. scion is most likely geared between 16 and 28 year olds. more toward the college students and college grads. teenagers dont even have enough credit to buy cars usually.
with that said... scion bringing out a car with a price tag of as much as 25,000 is no longer a far fetched idea. its unlikely that the dl will run that high in cost but it isnt impossible.

Don't kid yourselves. The untold story here is that Scion is attracting FAR more mid-30s drivers than anyone talks about. EVERY SINGLE person here in the Albany area that I have seen driving a Scion (self and wife included), is 28 to 35 years old.

Self - FM tC Manual
Wife -Camo xB Auto

I'd love to see market research from Toyota on this based upon purchase orders and not projections or the marketing department's expectations.

Thread is about price....regardless of your age, a company wants to make money off of you. If they make a $25-$30K car, SOMEBODY will buy it...whether it's a college senior, a spoiled HS frosh or a 40 year old parent. Not every car Scion makes is going to have a base price of $16K

"IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL BUY IT"
