Default Thinking of getting IS350

Im getting the IS350 after the first of the year. Dont worry the tC will stay in the family, I'm thinking of giving it to my brother for his 16th bday. Whats everyone's take on it?

do it man! the IS350 is a sweet ride and reliable(you will be keepin it in the family as well)! and since the launch of the IS-F, lexus had a bunch of F-sport upgrades you can get for the IS250/350

sometimes it is a pain driving a stick, it would be nice to switch to the paddle shifters for a change.

i figure since I have can afford to give my lil bro a car why not, maybe he will be rich and famous one day and repay the favor...lol

IS350

if you don't like the 6speed sequential automatic *you can put it into manual mod and change gears via slap stick*, you can use the 6 speed from the MKIII supra or the bullet proof 5 speed aswell.

the downside to this, alot of tweaks to get it to work, but it will bolt right up non the less. most of the tweaks have to do with most likely using a different ECU otherwise the IS350's will be going insane all the time.

i really don't see the need to do anything to it though. the IS350 DOES weigh in just over 3,500lbs but it still does 0 to 60 in jut over 5 seconds in auto mode and when in manual sequential you can break them down to 4.8 seconds which is the quickest i've heard of so far. if you ask me, that's pretty damn nice. if it was manual, you could easily throw a turbo on there, twice the tuning time... but 10lbs of boost and you'll be in the mid 4 second range no problem.

also know, the stock power of the 2grfe engine is more then enough to hit the top end in the IS350 without a problem. top speed is cut at 143mph, get rid of the governor and you can easily do 150+ no problem and it doesn't take a thousand years to get there either.

i'd love to tell you what power you'd possibly make with 10lbs of boost going... but sadly, engines are changing ever so much more within the past year that the basis of the calculations are become more and more inaccurate. the of road dune buggy in Australia that toyota has running a 2GRFE on, it's hitting a rough 810hp on 20lbs of boost with a twin turbo setup *2x Garret GT28's* and if i do the basic calculations, in order to have 500hp a the crank, you'd need roughly 20lbs going so the 2GRFE is ALOT more efficient *power wise* then alot of engines out there right now. 10lbs of boost could possibly easily sit the 2GRFE at 450-550hp easy. that's effing retardidly awesome... and with how the dual injection system works, you could more then likely get away with using pump gas still and not worry about a thing at that point.

and on top of everything you'll get a lot more looks in a BMW then a toyota i mean lexus

if you're waiting that long to do oil changes... even when using full synthetics... you're a moron... sorry, but i have to say it.

plus, yeah the whole pay nothing for 5 years or 50k miles is great and all... but as soon as that's up, costs are up the wazoo.

also, if you're referring "looks" within the aggression that the IS family has, Toyota/Lexus specifically don't want their vehicles looking TOO aggressive for a reason. why do you think 95% of all Toyota/Lexus vehicles don't have full black interior... too aggressive in their eyes. they are looking for a mix of aggression and class.

on another not... BMW is great for that look... problem is reliability. BMW is reliable to a point, but there's also a reason for Toyota/Lexus ranking top for reliability for how many DECADES?

plus... an example of waste weight vs power. 335i and IS350 both weigh roughly the same and produce roughly the same power when ran on 93 octane. here's the difference... 335i is already turbo'd to make it's power, the IS350 is N/A, revs higher and has mass low end torque very early in it's game. the 335i lacks part of it's torque due to it's turbo setup.

also, when gas prices are too ridiculous, the IS350 is your friend. go from 300ish hp to 270ish and run 87 octane being the 2GRFE engine is designed to run off it in the first place.
