A salesman for Dodge told me when I was taking a test drive in a SRT-4 (which I hated) that 30% of new Vipers don't make it home because people try to race them after they buy them and end up crashing. Oh well, I still love the Viper.

Lol, I'd say that was more a case of the driver pushing the car beyond the limits of the driver, rather than the car being pushed beyond the limits of the car. The viper has a *ton* of torque, and is much more difficult to drive fast that a ferrari or porsche.
If you think the viper can't compete, you should look up the first 2 years race results of the viper GTS. IIRC, the top 3-5 cars were vipers in something like 85% of the races. Even the first year the C5R corvettes came out, they couldn't compete. Ferrari/Porsche both boosted HP numbers as a result of the Viper, and it's performance/$ value. I cant remember what Ferrari's answer was, but the 911 Turbo S was a direct result of the Viper's performance and numbers, according to Car and Driver.
