Default WOULD YOU ROCK THIS?? pt. 3 (best of both worlds)

In this weeks posting, we have something that is oh so familiar to many in the Scion community.

it's the Hanna Montana/Mylie Cyrus of Scions! the Gen 2.5 xB!!! As you can see, it incorporates elements of both generations in a snazzy package built by KIA!

woops! for all you non-dutch speaking people, here is a google translation.

Kia is engaged in a metamorphosis. Until a few years ago were the models of the brand with the neck aangekeken. There now seems to be quickly changed. The Soul Burner is the first attempt by Kia to agree tough to do.
Kia shows at the Geneva Motor Show this Soul Burner. Until recently, the brand was known for his no-nonsense institution, but in this study are also in the Kia words' lifestyle ',' emotion ',' dynamic 'and' experience 'bestorven on the lips of the Koreans.
What's going on? Kia shows at the Geneva Motor Show a trio of concept cars which this Soul Burner simply the stoerste. Including hoogmodieuze matzwarte lacquer. Kia wants to appeal to the emotion and experience of the autokoper instead of 'just' one to be used on the proppen. The Soul Burner is the spierballenversie of the trio. Our benieuwen what the other Kia's inspired us go.

I'd have to agree, the concept looks like crap. If Kia were to take off all the superfluous crap and give it a nice drop with some decent 19's... then we'd have something.

On the other hand, veedub just came out with this.

(from edmunds.com)

What is it?
2008 Volkswagen Scirocco

What's special about it?
According to VW, the new 2008 Volkswagen Scirocco has been designed as a pure sports car. So forget for a moment that it's essentially a rebodied GTI. And disregard the fact that instead of a sloping hatchback like its predecessor, this Scirocco has a more traditional square back like, uh, the GTI.

This Volkswagen Scirocco has more aggressive, sports car-style dimensions than the GTI, though. Compare them side by side and the Scirocco is nearly 2 inches longer, 2 inches wider and 3 inches lower, despite riding on the same 101.5-inch wheelbase. Its lines exaggerate the differences, as the upturned window line and low roof make the Scirocco look like a faster car than the GTI.

It might turn out to be faster than the GTI, but not by much. The Scirocco will offer four different engines under the hood: three direct-injection inline-4s that burn gas, plus a TDI diesel. The three gas engines make 120, 158 and 197 horsepower respectively, while the turbodiesel serves up 236 pound-feet of torque.

All four engines run through the GTI's standard six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, but the 158-hp engine will offer an optional seven-speed DSG setup. Details on the suspension setup are sparse, but the Scirocco will offer "adaptive chassis control," a driver-adjustable setup that coordinates the damping control with the electro-mechanical steering.

Inside, the Scirocco is set up for a driver and three passengers. Both of the front seats are height adjustable and the rear seats feature deep contouring that makes them look like two distinct bucket seats. The rear seats still fold down, however, and there are a respectable 26.7 cubic feet of space when both are laid flat.

The dash design is carried over directly from the GTI, although the Scirocco gets gauges with unique white illumination. A CD changer is standard, while the top-of-the-line navigation system adds a 30GB hard drive.

If all this sounds like the kind of Scirocco you would want to own, send a letter to Volkswagen saying so. As of right now, there are no plans to sell the Scirocco in the U.S., and barring any wild swings in the value of the U.S. dollar (or a large scale write-in campaign), the plan isn't likely to change. Executives at Volkswagen's U.S. arm feel this car is just too close to the GTI to find a niche, so unless the German side decides to send them over, this will be your best look at Volkswagen's latest "sports car."

I'm sorry, but the new Scirocco does nothing for me. I'd rather have a Volvo C30.

thanks NotAllBad.

Man, VW tamed it down. The scIROCco concept looked much better. I agree, whats the point if it has the GTI's mechanicals.

It's pretty much just a GTI that got sat on... Not much sense to make this alongside the GOLF/GTI/etc... Looks more like a MKVI to me...

The new Scirocco is growing on me. Eventho its really close to a GTI.
http://www.leftlanenews.com/volkswagen-scirocco.html

After a slew of leaks, Volkswagen has officials unveiled its Scirocco hatchback, which goes on sale in Europe later this summer. The car is on display this week at the Geneva Motor Show. “In the Scirocco we will be bringing the kind of sports car into the showroom that people dream of. Yet it is a dream that an exceptionally large number of car drivers will be able to afford — despite all of the high-end technologies we have implemented,” CEO Dr. Martin Winterkorn said. With a length of 168 inches, the Scirocco is on par with the Golf. However, it is built significantly lower to the ground and is nearly as wide as the larger Passat sedan.
There is seating for four adults, including the driver. Once they are all aboard, the Scirocco provides 292 liters of cargo capacity; when the two seatbacks of the individual rear seats are folded down, capacity increases to 755 liters. There are three TSI gasoline engines offered and one TDI diesel. The gas engines deliver 120, 158, or 145 horsepower. The diesel motor develops 140 horsepower. The standard transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A panoramic glass roof is available, which extends from the A-pillars to the B-pillars. The glass reflects 99 percent of UV radiation, 97 percent of infrared radiation (heat) and 80 percent of visible light. Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, height adjustable driver and front passenger seats and steering wheel, leather parking brake grip, sport seats, split folding rear seats, power windows, air conditioning, ESP, braking assistant, six airbags, speed-dependent power steering, and of course a sport chassis.
U.S. availability Reports surfaced a few months ago suggesting the Scirocco would not be offered in the North American market, but the appearance of prototypes this summer on U.S. soil suggests otherwise. In late April, Volkswagen of America executive Adrian Hallmark said the new Scirocco hatchback would not come to the United States because "we don't want it." He implied it would cannibalize sales of the GTI. But in May, spokesman Hans-Gerd Bode said the final decision will not be made by Volkswagen of America, but rather by VW CEO Martin Winterkorn in Germany.
