the 5 spd gearing is actually very similar to many 5 spds on teh road so no complaining here.

i think i migh jus swap out the final gear to mak this more fuel efficient?

I love acceleration. I don't love cruising on the highway at 80 or 90 and being able to hear it now that I have an intake and exhaust... it revs around 4k... so I try not to exceed 60mph.

 

Gearing in the tC is alot different than the GTO. GTO is around 2500 rpm at 90 in 6th. tC sounds like it's going to explode . Even in 4th in the GTO 90 mph is like 4000 rpm.

 

People talk about how they dont like how "stupidly low" our trannys are geared, but I dont mind it that much especially if it gives better acceleration, although I just wish we had a 6th gear, I hate driving at 3200rpm going only 70mph.

i think that the tC is geared great...however yes Darkness....our cars desperately need a 6th gear...and yes racing the corvette was cool as hell...i knew i was going to lose but still...show him what u got...

 

I have yet to really race someone in my new TC but I was just wondering, is it better to hold it in the shorter gears longer or the higher gears longer in a general acceleration race with any car? Also is there any type of rev limiter on the Tc or is that someing you need to be careful of when racing?

I drove an 05' Vette to sping break in florida! It will do well over 130 in 3rd gear! Our cars top out at 127.

 

You would blow the engine on an 05 vette going 130 in 3rd gear. Assuming a manual transmission anyway.

130 in 3rd gear would be 7961 rpm.
6500 rpm in 3rd is 106 mph.

106 in 3rd is still awesome though. The Camaro SS I used to have would do about the same.

 

Yea, it cuts off when you go 200RPM over redline

This happened just a couple hours ago. When I got in my tc, I thought how funny this thread was. A couple minutes after I left home, what do I see? Yup a black corvette, latest model, right in front of me. So I sped up right next to him. Then we both managed to stop at a red side by side. I looked at him and he wasn't even looking back. I knew he didn't want none of this. So as the light turn green I hit the gas. I gotten at least 10 cars ahead of him within a minute. So its official. My tc beat a corvette (even though he didn't know we were racing). Who feels like cwlebrating? Punch and pie for everyone!

 

I just read that the New c6 can accelerate to 60 in first gear!! The tC can maybe hit 30. Also if you are in a Corvette or Viper it is highly unlikely that you would stay in top gear if you suddenly wanted to accelerate after cruising at 50 . In the tC you can accelerate pretty good in top gear after cruising at 50. Just a difference in gear ratios I guess.
