Default RWD Burnouts

I watch the show "Pinks" fairly frequently on the SPEED network. Before every race, they do a burnout to warm up their tires. Whether its an auto or manual tranny, they always do it. I'm wondering HOW. Do they heel toe? Do they have the parking brake hooked up to the front wheels? How do they do it?

I didn't have a transbrake/front line lock on my 240sx. I just did a power brake and brake walked it.

A front line lock helps a lot, but you don't have to have one to do a burnout. You just have to practice power braking.

Haha, line lock is for suckas.

Press the clutch in, put it in 1st gear -- Slightly tap the brake with your toes to initiate force on the front brakes only and put your heel on the gas. Rev the engine up to around 4500rpm-5500rpm (depending on how much power you got) then drop the clutch and keep the revs up until your wheels start spinning.

...And that's how you do a stand still!

If you practice this enough, you can do it at a parking lot with a big bump blocking your car without moving a single inch.. or you can showoff and do it in REVERSE while in traffic. Just make sure you know the car behind you because not all drivers are created equal

wouldn't tapping the brake pedal initiate force on all 4 brakes? not just the front?

No.

Fronts go first that's why the front brakes are always bigger than the rear. Think of the hydraulic brake line bleeding order. It usually goes Front Left -> Front Right -> Rear Left -> Rear Right

Here's a little video of my old 240sx doing a stand still from the fly:

Heel/toe will eventually come natural the more you practice it.

that is some horrific camera work, but nice driving. Thanks for the explanation. If you happen to watch the show "Pinks" on the speed network, let me know what method you think they are using when they do their burnout.

You would have to disable the VDC first, then you would need to reach down underneath the brake pedal, and disconnect the brake light switch/fuse, THEN you could do it. Otherwise, the minute you dumped the clutch (don't matter if it's at 6k RPM's) and hit the brake, your engine would just bogg. But why do that everytime you have to go to the track, instead of just buying a Line Lock, and hitting the button when it's burnout time.

Line Lock FTW! I'm picking one up for my 350Z soon. Not that I'll be doing any standing burnouts in the water box with it, as I have it for drifting, not drag racing. But I still would like one.

ahh the good old quick foot method. brake stands are great.

or if your pushing enough power once you dump that clutch your not going anywhere for a good few seconds.
