Yeah, I certainly used to at the tracks down here. Insurance excluded 'racing surfaces' so I'm done with it. Getting a dedicated track car now. A lot of people are shocked to see a little Scion zip by them =)

Yea, that's a great idea. I hear horror stories of people taking their daily-drivers for HPDE events, slipping on spilt oil, and doing serious damage.

I would like to pick up a Miata eventually for just track duties. Cheap, light, RWD, and easy to get parts for. Maybe an E30... What are you looking into?

Yup can't go wrong with a miata. I'm tempted to buy a spec Rx-7, but I don't have a tow vehicle or trailer (and race cars aren't street legal). But those cars can be had in 'good' shape for 3k. They're a bull to drive with that live rear axle, have no power whatsoever, but they're reliable, cheap and if you can drive one of them fast, you can drive damn near anything with RWD fast. Miata's certainly have a certain finesse about them though.

Good choice either way.

Motorsports insurance. I think they offer single day coverage.

I've seen a couple at our local track. Novice drivers not passing anyone though.

However, I used to own a SVT Focus that was my track car. We had a group of us Foci owners show up at a Mustang Track Day. You should of seen the looks when we passed those Mustangs. There was five of us with race suspensions, and two with super chargers.

Fun times.

Wife and I race and track this car now...

It's getting too expensive to do either now. We have 3 races scheduled so that we can keep our racing license.

However, a track day is now 275.00 x 2 plus 120-150.00 in racing fuel.

Expensive day for the both of us.

Racing-we easily spend 1500.00 for the weekend in entry fees, food, hotel, fuel, car prep.
