which would win
Stock vs Stock....XRS.
But it's down fall is that it has no aftermarket support like the 2az-fe does. So, when it comes to modification....It leans towards the 2az-fe winning in the end.

That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the XRS will take the lead in the Upper RPMS. With a good driver in the tC, we should get the jump. But the XRS should slowly....slowly start to surpass.

Look at the Trap speeds. That says it all, when trying to compare two cars on the street. It traps higher in the 1/4 mile than a stock tC. Which equates to it being faster on the street.
Trap speed is important, but it depends on what you mean by "on the street".
If you mean "from a highway roll" then yeah, the car that traps higher probably has the advantage, but it doesn't mean that it's going to be the faster car from a dig if, for instance, "on the street" means a stoplight race.

Stop light to stop light is for idiots. No one races for 60 feet. And yes I was talking about highway rolls. If you go from a dead stop around here, then the race ends when you hit triple digits.

Even if you're going from a dig to 100mph, if you're going by those magazine numbers (which you guys were), then the tC is about 2 cars ahead at 90, which means the XRS needs to pull 2 cars from 90-100, and with that 2mph advantage, he's only pulling on the tC ~3ft/sec. Not exactly a cut and dried victory for the Matrix even up to triple digits.
Of course, those numbers are not set in stone by any means, but it's just showing that despite the advantage the XRS seems to have from a roll based on trap speed, if the tC can jump out to a lead from a dig, it may take the XRS a while to catch up.

It was a personal opinion bro, not a personal attack on you. I didn't say Dig races are for idiots. I said Stop Light ones were. The 60 comment was because here, between each stop light is about 0-60mph lol... Secondly, if it's a stop light, I would imagine you racing in a heavily traffic area which is not on my list of personal preference. I like to go somewhere more secluded where we can stretch the legs a little better, than to have to slam on the brakes because of the next traffic light is vastly approaching.
So, don't take it personal chief, it was just an opinion. Also, if you read what I wrote....I said the XRS will SLOWLY creep. I didn't say it would blow the doors off of you or anything. And I thought that we had came to an age and time of understanding, that one can only take what a magazine ranking on performance is, with a grain of salt.
It says 15.7 @ 88mph for the tC right? We ran 15.1 and only mod we had was a ZPI full exhaust. Either that is some hella good gains for an exhaust or those where some poor drivers to record that 15.7.
Generally, I usually take off a few 10th's of a second off of magazine reported times, as I always see lower #'s from people who have taken the said car to the drag strip.

And yeah, I saw previously where you said the XRS would slowly pull, and that's true. My original point was just that if you're starting from a dig, the tC may be able to get a little lead and hold the XRS off for quite a while, which is similar to what you said, I was just trying to figure out exactly what you meant by "on the street."
Definitely a good point about the magazine times, which is why I made it clear that I was basing my discussion on the only numbers we had, the numbers you guys were using as well, and not implying that the outcome would always be the same. If we all ran times as crappy as some of the magazines did, that would be sad.

Anyway, I think we're pretty much in agreement here, just a little misunderstanding about different preferences in racing :D
am i mistaken or goes the XRS matrix come with a 6psd? i think that could be a huge factor when it comes to amateur drivers on the street. short gears, quicker acceleration.
and unless you numbers are from the same driver at the same track on the same day they really rnt that solid in my opinion

Basically, a little mistake w/ the tC's 2.4 won't result in dropping out of the powerband quite as dramatically as a shifting mistake with the XRS/GTS 1.8 would.

although 2ZZ may have less support, they have everything they need in terms of bolt on's. And bolt on's do a lot for that motor than the 2AZ.

65, wouldnt that be a 3rd gear start on a tC? I dont think I can even get close to 65 in 2nd even revving all the way to 6500.
what i'm saying is it is bad speed to start a race from a roll on the tc. it is near the end of third gear. i usually take 3rd up to 70 mph and upshift, so the tc loses right away because they have to upshift right away, while what gear is the matrix in? i don't know their gear ratios and rpms, but say the matrix with its 6 spd can be right in 4th gear which is right where its powerbrand takes off and vvt-iL gives them that vtec like boost? i'm just saying that it seems like like a bad speed for a tc on a roll.
I see what youre saying. I highly doubt 65MPH would be a 4th gear start on the Matrix. Maybe 3rd gear right around lift point sounds more like it. Any car needing a 4th gear to get to 65 has really really close gears!
edit:
here is a vid from a Celica GT-S.... seems like 65 in 3rd wuold be right where lift begins.
