America's Tire Co. vs. Tire Rack
Hi all,
I just got a quote from America's Tire Co, a brick and mortar/ internet store for some wheels and tires to put on my tc....
The wheels are about $200 each and the tires are about $100 each so that's 1200 total....
They also mentioned something about a lifetime tire / wheel guarentee or something like that where they would repair my tires or wheels if they got busted.... Anyone familiar with that from America's Tire Company?
I can get these things from tirerack. com for a slightly better price, but I have read through some of the reviews on Scionlife
People say that the tires tirerack.com supply tend to be out of round or something and are un-balanceable. People have commented also that tire rack's return policy and customer service isn't very good AFTER you buy something from them....
Can anyone local (Norcal) confirm or deny any of these things about tire rack or america's tire?
Opinions and shop experiences section of Scionlife has been helpful but I can't always tell where someone is when they offer a review in the message boards.
Ed
P.S. I've also looked for the wheel I want at wheel1.com, wheelnext, etc. but they either don't have the style I want or they have a version where there are a hundred little decorative rivets on the wheel.
Thanks to Gordon (gnizzle) for the heads up on wheelmax. They're .... not so good.

i've bought countless tires from tirerack.. no complaints.. and the tires wouldn't be out of round from one company specifically, that's preposterous...
www.edgeracing.com is a very reputable company as well..

I purchased my wheels and tires from Americas Tire. I would recommend negotiating on the price. For what you plan on spending get them to knock a few bucks off the wheels and tires and throw in a set of wheel locks. They were originally going to try charging me $35 a wheel to have them shipped from the manufacturer since the warehouses did not have them in stock but I managed to get that charge gone as well.

If your in the concord area go talk to Chris D at Amricas tire on Monument. I buy all my wheels and tires from him. or PM me with what you want and Ill get a price from him...oh yeah and americas road lifetime waranty or road hazzard is the best. I popped three tires on my old truck wheeling and they replaced them no questions asked.
Ed,
I buy my tires from tire rack with out any problems, I also use tire rack prices to negoiate prices when I go shopping locally, I can usually get a very competive prices when I use them for shopping around (don't forget the shipping charges from tire rack)
I have been using tire rack for over 3 years never a problem I even use when needed for my customers at work.
I think your best bet would be to use Tire Rack prices for your local shopping bargaining, just tell them to match the price most places will and they won't be loosing money. I do this with Just Tires across the street from my work they don't have a problem with it.

I've only had a few experiences with Tire Rack, but they've all been good.
The first time was a few years back when I was living in Indiana. My roommate and I needed some tires - two sets of racing tires, plus he needed new tires on his truck- a total of 12 tires to be mounted/balanced. We shopped around, and decided that Tire Rack would be the best deal, and taking a road trip to their South Bend warehouse would save us more on shipping than it would cost us - plus, it was an excuse for a roadtrip.
So, we loaded the wheels in the back of his truck, headed north, and got there shortly before they closed on a Saturday night. They had us pull into the garage area, fetched the tires, and began mounting and balancing like crazy - without the slightest hint of attitude that we were going to be keeping them there late on a Saturday.
While we were waiting, we strolled over and were checking out an E-type Jaguar that was off to one side of the garage area. Rather nice, great shape, but not a trailer queen - you could tell that this car was driven and enjoyed. Meanwhile, there was an older guy there - probably in his late 60's, early 70's - who was jacking up the truck, yanking off the wheels, and lugging them over to the dude doing the mounting/balancing.
The older guy notices us looking at the Jag, and walks over to us and we start talking cars. What we raced, etc., how we liked the tires we were buying - (BFG Comp T/A R1's back then, I think) - and it becomes evident that the Jag is his. Eventually he pulls out his wallet and gives us a business card - it was Peter Veldman, the president of Tire Rack. He tells us that if we need anything, give him a call.
Mind you, this is late on a Saturday, and the president of the company is lugging tires around in a warehouse at 70-some years old. We decided he was either a genuine car guy, or a businessman who wanted to make damn sure things were going right. Either way, the day he changed our tires was the day he won our repeat business.
