Default Help with a trade-in value in the North East

Last night I went to a dealer here in NJ and couldn't work out the deal I wanted. I was lowballed on the trade-in value of my '02 Kia Sedona EX with 45000 (15000 still on the warranty). The dealers around here use the Galves price guide and their website doesn't give free prices. You have to pay a few bucks for a subscription or order a paper guide.

Anyone here have access to Galves? I'd appreciate finding out what the guide actually says versus what the dealer offered me.

Thanks.

I was lowballed at a dealer and went to the next down the raod and was $2000 better off for doing so. I've never heard of thie galves, but they'll tell you anything. Try another dealer, mention you didn't like the way the other dealer treated you and tell them what you need for trade in to make the deal before they have a chance to ask or offer. They can't jack up the car price on the other end, due to pure pricing, so it's best just to tell them what you're looking to get and be prepared to walk if they refuse. (the last statement was the hardest part)

I have never heard of Galves either, but the all the dealers I know of use NADA as a guide to pricing cars. Not from the NADA website, but a book that is published once a month. The book value for an 02 Sedona EX with your milage shows a book value of 10,600-11,800 depending on condition. This is the guide that most all delaerships use but it is just a guide and on most cars it is pretty close if not exactly what the dealer will give you.

Yeah $10,000 is what I was thinking what the ballpark would be. I was lowballed an amazing $7000.

Next dealer I go to I'm just asking for what they'll give on the trade and have them write it down if I like the offer. THEN I'll say that I want an Xb. I'm sure since the Xb pricing is fixed, they'll try to offer less on trade-on since they can't jack up the Xb price. Dealers make more money on used cars han used cars.

When I bought my xB...the dealer took me to a computer on the floor and had me go to the Kelly Blue Book. I just when through the screens, and what popped up as the trade in value is what they gave me. No issues. KBB, for my zip-code, said your van is worth $11,150 if in excellent shape.

I also have never heard of that other company your deal talks of...

Thanks for the replies. I'll be heading to another (larger) Scion dealership in Burlington, NJ tomorrow. Will try to make it tonight but don't think I'll be able too. I'll let you know how it went.

Almost every dealer in the Northeast uses Galves and their prices are always lower

I wasn't disputing what the car was worth, I just wanted to find out the actual Galves value. I've since had the chance to look at the Galves book and it's worth up to $8000. But I've also already sold the Kia anyway.

Both dealerships around here use "average auction values" instead of KBB. I got lowballed at both. (About half of KBB's low trade in values). One dealership did call me back with a much more reasonable offer (About $25.00 less than KBB shows.) so I put a deposit down on an xB.
