Unhappy o8tC - meh....

I bought a set of TRD coilovers from o8tC. Horrible transaction. Here's the FS thread:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188526

The intial sale went smooth, but shipping was kind of a hassle. It took just over a month after payment for me to receive the coilovers. I understand that the seller is super-busy with his new business and all, but I would have liked to be given more priority after I send a payment. That being said - the seller did apologize for the delay and threw in some old 5mm spacers to compensate for the extended shipping time. I appreciated the display of concern.

My greatest bother is the condition in which the coilovers arrived. The FS thread stated "no rust" when in fact the units are covered in rust. It's so bad that I can hardly move the locking nuts. The FS also showed a picture of the coilovers that was probably over a year old. The coilovers were shown and described to be in better shape than they really are.

I'll need to somehow clean these up and get rid of as much rust as I can. I'm not going to put these on my car if I can't adjust them at all. If and when I put them on the car I will continue this review. Hopefully the really ride as good as the seller claims they do.

EDIT: Now that they're on. It's obvious that the rears are in need of a rebuild. I'm bouncing around like a Honda. Front's a solid. Thank Buddha for that.

^ Can't quote since the thread is closed. But it reads: "About 15k miles, didnt drive it in the winter at all so no rust"

I'm trying to decide... should I just suck it up and go at it with WD40, PB Blaster, Acetone and steel wool? Or just sell them as it? I kind of don't want to deal with it. LOL

Maybe try and get a refund for the amount that it would cost you to fix them? I dunno..that definitely sucks though man.

Usable? Yeah... but not fully functional the way they were supposed to be sold to me. I didn't buy coils that I would have to fix. I should have bought fully functional coils as stated in the thread. I'm a bit frustrated now. I just started to clean them and I've already lost my patience.

^ LOL. I'll admit, I kind of lost my composure for a minute. I know that these can be cleaned up. It snows all over the the U.S. and people with coilovers deal with this kind of rust all of the time. But I really feel like I shouldn't have paid what I did for something that needs this kind of work, when it was made clear that they have "No Rust".

How would I do that? Like put them bottom down in a half full container keeping the shock body above water (or Coke in this matter)? Can the Coke leak into the body of the coilover that way?

i dont think so. fill the coke to a certain point so it doesnt leak into the body but just enough for everything else thats needed.

Yeah, me too. I don't know him personally but I know he has a good rep on SL. But at the end of the day... its just that. A rep on SL. It's meaningless. Especially to someone who's getting rid of their Scion anyway....

^ That's what I mean, from the threads and down I don't have to worry about it getting anywhere that it can hurt? This seems to be a solid trick. I've been searching it on Zilvia forums and other forums and people do this often. But I haven't read about how to do it without getting the coke in wrong places.

Yes, I have contacted him. He didn't have anything to say about the rust. There isn't much to say, I guess.. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll give me some money back. But oh well, these are the chances you take when buying off forums. I understand that.

^ I like to think I can be reasonable. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe once I put them on the car and feel the nice ride (that he claims these have), I'll feel a bit better about the sale. I just hate the fact that I was basically lied to about the condition.

Yeah, I'm going to give it a try. I'm going to go out for a wire brush and stuff soon.
