Just wanted to say Hi, and see Who's Who, and Who's actually participating.
My daughter has owned her 2014 Scion tC, (6 speed manual) for a few years now, and really went out of her way to find this "exact" car. It had approx. 30K when she bought it (3-4 yrs ago?),
and it now has over 110K. She's still in college, and I'm helping her maintain it. The blue body, and black/grey interior are still in good shape, and she plans on keeping it as long as possible.
I myself am an old Hi-Perf. Pontiac enthusiast, and am not very familiar with this modern OBDII, Frt Wheel Drive stuff, and will need to be educated....more. I belong to a multitude of forums from 6.2 diesel trucks, JD garden tractors, Pontiac sites, Antique coal stoves, and more. I'm not one to jump
in and join just to take advantage of the experienced members advice and knowledge, and then drop out. My membership here is not only for mechanical advice, but am curious about the reason for the dedication of Scion owners. Maybe you guys can enlighten me to popularity of these little machines.
Hopefully there will be some members participation that will impress me. We'll see.
P.S. I have no pics of my daughters car...(yet) and will post them if there is any interest going on here. So for now, I'll leave you a couple of my favorite oldies.
Well, my wife chose 2005 xB for its styling. I think "cute" was word she used. And it's so versatile.
It's handles like sports car. I've taken it up into mountains above Saratoga where I grew up. It actually handles twisties just as well as my '82 Supra from 30-years ago! Even beats an '82 Corvette I had briefly before trading for Supra. Almost comes close to keeping up with my Porsche!
It's also a cargo van. My wife has hauled couches, beds, dining-room tables AND chairs with it! Pile in four people and all their gear for weekend trips!
It's a touring car for 4! We've taken long road-trips in it. Made journey from San Francisco to Phoenix numerous times, only stopping for gas. Did one trip in under 10-hrs. At end, we're all completely relaxed and comfortable, ready to do it all over again!
It's a Toyota with traditional Toyota reliability. We've put on over 200k-miles across 2 different xBs and they've been bulletproof! Only had to do oil-changes, brake-pads, fill it with petrol and that's it! My wife's Corolla made it to 300k-miles and we suspect xB can at least do that much, if not more!
It's a racecar! Now that I'm moving to AZ, I'm able to do performance mods that CA forbids. Such as using aftermarket programmable EFI system and adding turbo! Looking to triple factory power to +300bhp! Combined with some suspension upgrades and it'll be good for 1:40 laps at World-famous Laguna Seca raceway. That's knocking on supercar territory!
Well, I "AM" impressed. There actually are members, (and staff) on this site, that log in, and participate. Thank you. I've seen another brand X site, that is basically non-existent. No one ever answers the phone, so I don't know why anyone would bother joining. And thanks for the greetings. I showed this site to my daughter today, and couldn't believe I got responses to my thread. I told her she needs to also join, cause I know she has mucho photos of her car. Was curious tho, why I didn't get any notifications in my E-mail. Something to look into.
To Jon, and Mr. Luv, I'll get some photos up ASAP, and check out the other members rides. And @ Danno, thanks for the break-down of the Scion mobile. I like the way you itemized it. I've always been a fan of having an "underdog" vehicle, that will sometimes surprise the un-knowing. Such as my 6.2 (GM) older diesel engine, that has had a bad rap over the years, and my 84 T/A that's been waiting patiently for me to install a lowly 301T (turbo) motor. That one has always gotten a bad rap too. Those vehicles are extinct now, but have a loyal and dedicated following.
I see the Scion, as such a vehicle. Not known for it's raw power, but like my 84T/A with a 301T motor, will be a well balanced street machine. i like the fact the Scion is a 2 door, with a stick shift, a hatchback roof, and am tickled pink to know a supercharger "could?" be added. Something else to look into.
So, anyway, thanks again for the greetings, and to all the Dads, "Happy Fathers day."
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
