Default New xB owner. Just a few questions

Hey everyone. I'm the 2nd owner of a 1st gen 2005 xB. Didn't come with a key fob. No dinger when key is inserted or when head lights are left on after turning key off. Any suggestions?

they came with factory keyless entry, so you should be able to scoop up a keypad from ebay. IIRC there were a few different models of keypads though.

As far as the dingers go, I dont think any of my xbs had them.

If the dinger isn't working, the key fob won't work either as they are both tied into the same circuitry within the Body Control Module.

Place the dome light selector switch to the "door" position.
Now, a couple questions:
#1) Does the dome light stay off when you open driver's door?

#2) Does the dome light turn on when other doors are open?

If the answer is yes, you:
#1) Have a bad door pin switch (possible). They don't last forever.

#2) Door pin switch disconnected (possible). Maybe a previous owner intentionally disconnected the pin switch to stop the dinger from dinging.

#3) Broken door pin wire (not likely). I doubt this is the case, but stranger things have happened.

#4) Defective Body Control Module......this is another thing I doubt would happen, but ya never know.

Beware of messing with individual wires, the door dinger, the dome light, the door pins, the lock/unlock are all controlled thru the BCM. The BCM commands negative circuit continuity......

.......or a local salvage yard.

Here in California, salvage yards have to "recycle all batteries".....including the ones in key fobs. Instead of pulling the batteries out of key fobs, the salvage yards toss them in boxes. If I need a key fob, I'll just ask to look thru the boxes, find a few key fobs same as what I need and buy them for $1 each.

I'll also buy all the key fobs which are truly wireless "push to start" fobs and sell them on eBay for $100.........spend $20 to buy 20 wireless fobs, sell for $100 each make about $1,900 within a week
